Focus blast gengar actually works pretty well, using focus blast, it can ko dark and normal type pokemon which would normally completely murder the gengar. That is why I run focus blast shadow ball gengar instead of shadow punch shadow ball.

The only reason that I use focus blast gengar is because it gives hangar some pretty good matchups where it can one shot tanky things Registeel and just dish out tons of damage, although I admit that sludge bomb would be rather good too
