John Williams conducts this lovely arrangement and production, showcasing a very young Branford Marsalis. The Tanglewood Festival Chorus only add to this most beautiful of live programs!

I am the third guy in from the left. I will never forget the fun of preparing this piece with the amazing John Oliver and the wonderful singers with whom I was blessed to join. I didn't speak a word of French!!! This was in the late '80's I think. Keep singing everyone!

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard, and now seen. You can also hear it on _Romances for Saxophone_ by Branford Marsalis 1986.

I've often felt it difficult to respond to messages regarding this wonder. I agree with you Steve Marruffo; this is an incredibly beautiful piece! I rather count it as being at the top of some imaginary sadness tower! As much as I love it, I can't begin to say how it literally can bring me to tears. I'm so grateful to hear from you!

Nathan Gillmore Hi Nathan Gilmore! Thank you for your gracious comments. I'm honored that you wrote. Mere seconds ago I tried to explain some of mixed-feelings about this stupendous production. It's not the work itself, yet merely the beauty and sense of tragedy that it awakens in me. I'm honored that you liked it, and please shuffle my maudlin comments under the carpet!

June16th of 2017 Branford Marsalis performed this at Symphony Center with the CSO ... Without Chorus but it was breathtaking... the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's newly established African American Network sponsored a special post-concert Q and A with Branford Marsalis... This work is fabulolous...

Branford comes to ChicagoSO in June with the equally brilliant Susanna Malkki conducting this piece, Williamsz Escapades and Pulitzer winner Melinda Wagner's world premier Proceed, Moon. What a program! Unfortunately, there is no sign of their being a chorus--that would make it all the greater evening.

Just lovely! Faure composed this as a piano piece, first. Then he rearranged it for solo and chorus which is marked "optional". Aren't we glad he built this great work? Aren't we glad there is that amazing Marsalis family?

이병의 Thank you so much for your message. This is, indeed, an unusually beautiful rendition and performance of this song. To be truthful, I'm not sure how many superb musicians, starting with father Marsalis, are in the family! I'm thinking at least 4! Thank you so much for writing, and best regards. varadero

Patrik Karlsson Dear Mr. Karlsson, I'm really grateful for your comment, but need your help with an explanation. I visited some "xzibit" sites and they were very interesting. I just suspect I'm too old to understand the comparison. Is there any chance that you'd write back and tell me where you found these two artists to be alike? I'm not wanting to sound mean in any way, but I'm just curious. I hope to hear from you! Best regards, varadero

Xzibit had a song called "paparazzi" in the early 90s where he sampled this intro . I used to listen to it all day long and now i can't listen to the original without hearing xzibit in the back of my mind.

Patrik Karlsson Hi Patrik, Just went offline after reading your message, and found a rendition of Xzibit's production of this piece. Now I understand! I apologize. I'm probably old enough to be either of these performers grandparents! I'm glad and grateful that you took the time to reply to my question. I've uploaded so many songs by the Marsalis family; they're the best. Want to link you to one of my other favorites with Branford and Kathleen Battle; so beautiful! The song, is "Come Sunday," with both Kathleen Battle and Branford Marsalis, and I'm in a big pile of trouble with YT. Please check it out, and remember me! Best my friend, varadero
