Chris Moeller is a living legend. He is the CEO of Fit Bike Co and S&M Bikes which was started over 35 years ago! Chris was the first official guest on the MooreBMX podcast and today I thought it would be fun to nerd out about the different aspects of heat treating in BMX!

Great interview! Apparently what some riders don't understand is that it's a reciprocating relationship with these companies. You as a rider must offer value to the company providing product and support. If you're producing content or winning events with products on display and interacting positivly with the ridding community and promoting the Brand's reputation you'll never have a problem with financial support. Riders need to look at this like the business it is when you get to a "Pro" level. If you're riding in your driveway at home that's one thing if you're getting paid/support from a company you need to justify your pay/relationship. Also, you as a rider/brand will be looked at as an asset or a liability at some point, in a small niche community like BMX it's not in your best interest to burn bridges and develop a reputation as a problem. Who wan't to deal with a problem? The BMX community should thank guys like Chris Moeller for building this community from the tires up. Sure them make money but they deserve it for the risk and all the work they've put in over the years. If it was easy everyone would be doing it.

Love these conversations. Stoked to be riding a Sabbath Lite frame lightly, due to its heavy street use in the past.

I saw the video n dig it! Cool to see some older frames out there, plus I agree with using old parts knowing that your not hard on bikes and to ride with common sense. I personally just swapped out my 98 s&m race forks for new pitch forks I've been sitting on. The old forks worked fine for me but I don't ride hard n I understand that steel fatigues n the cons of using old parts.

As always a great and informative interview with Chris Moeller. Straight forward and tells it like it is. S&M products are a little more expensive than your average bmx company but the quality and look are top notch. Love S&M products. Thanks brant for another great interview with Chris Moeller.

As someone that's always had some form of Fit/S&M Products from my very first bike all the way through to my current bike! Now that I'm a Dad, my boy is getting bigger & bigger! He's started really loving his bikes, we got him a 4in1 trike/balance dealy & then found a balance bike real cheap on FB. I want him to have a badass bike once he's big enough to properly pedal around. I was genuinely quite surprised by the cost, it's something that I hadn't looked into until recently. I have had to really take a step back & actually look at what I'd be getting for the money. Even down to the 14"/16" Bikes these days, they're NOT what was around when I was young! When the time comes my boy will be on a Fit complete! EDIT: C'mon Chris!! 29" to 27" back to 26" NO! It's all about the Mullet set-up! 27.5" Front, 26" Rear or 29" Front, 27.5" Rear!

Quote: CHRIS, "Smacking that thing on everything." BRANT, "Yeah, Tightening it down and pinching the metal, and just deforming it in a way that makes it unpleasant to work with your rear end?" There's a quote for the ages.

Definitely need more industry and tech talk videos. These discussions are applicable to any manufacturing industries not just bikes wich is very interesting. I think a good topic for future videos would be around the design cycle for a bike. Not just the riders picking basic specs but the engineering, prototyping, solid modeling, tooling and testing. How does made in the USA differ from Overseas etc?

Everything is better when Moeller is involved.. Not every person beats the shit out of their bikes tho... I can ride a frame for 5 years easy at this point, and likely it's good for another 5..

In regards to $500 frames: Look at ANY other discipline of bike and a quality steel (4130), small batch, USA made bike frame costs right around a grand! It doesn't take ANY less work to build a BMX frame! BMX is BY far the best value in the bike world!

Yo! Say what you want about Chris Moeller but think about it, he has a choice, go down the road of developing high quality products and put your heart and soul into your company or taking the low road, manufacturing products as cheap as possible while spending money on advertising and selling out. Again, sure he's not doing this for free but it's easy to sell out after you establish yourself in the industry and I don't see him doing that ever, not while he's at the helm of this company. We are fortunate to have him and guys like Chris Moeller will be missed when they hang up the Vans.

Chris. Give all of your riders a discount code. Example: DOYLE . When the riders are doing videos, or at skateparks, they remind kids to use the discount code to get a free hat. Easy way to track sales.

People will pay for quality. I am building a new bike and found that "High end" frames are pretty inexpensive these days. I ordered a Chromo frame from Mike Laird for just the reasons Chris was talking about. Quality control can't get any better when you're making every frame by hand yourself. Also, another reason was that I wanted custom specs. I love S/M products and was torn between the S/M frame and the custom frame from Mike.

Don’t wasted your money on the cranks they make. Got a set with the spline is off on the left crank. Couldn’t get them to replace them or even be bothered to care.

Shit I live and breath BMX, I would have done some free labor... Or reported to my piers myself..To even be recognized by a top BMX company ..much less be flowed a few parts? I guess I grown up in a different time. Some of these guys are spoiled.
