I had actually heard many of them, though the most were completely unfamiliar. I kind of agree in the "still don't know their names" part, because the names were shown so briefly. It would help if the list was included in the description. Looking at the names on a list for more than a few seconds would help remembering them. It also would help remembering the names later, because connecting piece of music and its name would be easier than remembering the full names without help.

I don’t play the piano (yet), but I can’t imagine being able to play the French composers (and a few Beethoven pieces) without any hint of emotion, but maybe if you practice the pieces enough to become that proficient, the power of the emotions might become muted. Although I’m almost 60 now, I think I would have been struck with the same emotion when I was in my late teens, maybe because I listened mostly to Soul from my mid teens.

Really? Mozart music feels "commerce" to you? That's uncanny because I never got that from him. However he's a vampire who once painted the image of the beast from the sea, without whose mark one mayn't buy, sell, or trade. Plus he's now a singer/songwriter with a commerce-related stage name. Some people are so much better at subtly judging people's character than I am. And maybe it's because I myself am a vapid materialist with a college degree in Economics, so I'm desensitized to this shortcoming in others. (Mozart was my great-great-great grandpa by yet another pseudonym of his. It's probably a genetic trait.)
@evelynzlon9492Ай бұрын
Mozart has had a lot of commerce-related "stage names". Bismarck is phonetically pronounced "biz-mark". Mozart is pronounced "moats-art". His current wife issued him a written invitation to traverse the "drawbridge to her heart". Again castle/status-related.

My family is Polish and Chopin (alongside Copernicus) is extremely well know just by virtue of how much pride the society has for him. As such, with someone with a passing interest in classical music, I did know most of the names of the Chopin ones. The ones I didn't, I would have easily been able to find since he has a certain style (there's a lot happening in his compositions with a high tempo, is the best way I can put it into words)

1:45 - Hungarian Rhapsody was used in the move The Majestic with Jim Carrey (serious role). Basic premise: a Hollywood writer gets into an accident, hits his head hard and has amnesia. He gets discovered by someone from a town who swears he's a war veteran believed to have been killed, and the town also sees/believes it. Still trying to piece together his long lost memories, the movie shows people around town trying to refresh his memory. "His" piano teacher tried to have him play this song (a song she taught him well) at the town festival in front of everyone and that's when he struggles to play this, but uncovers his jazz background. It's a cool scene.

Okay so I find Für Elise hilarious because: Beethoven originally wrote the song for a girl he fell in love with. But she couldn't play the piano for shit, so he made a song so simple even she could play it. But then he learned she was engaged, so he made the rest of the song so difficult she could never hope to play it, just like he could never hope to have her heart.

When I was a child, we would go to visit my grandmother in Baltimore. At that time she lived in an apartment building for retirees. The 18th floor (top floor) was a multipurpose hall that had a baby grand piano. On many occasions, while I was up there, one of the residents would be playing that piano. He would play these very complicated classical pieces as well as other more recent pieces. One day I noticed that he never had any sheet music in front of him. Playing every piece from memory. I asked Grandma about him. She told me he would go to the Enoch Pratt Library and sign out stacks of sheet music, play through them, then memorize the ones that he liked best. She said he used to drive the residents on the 17th floor crazy because he would sit up there for hours on end playing that beautiful old piano. Many of the songs that are on this video are ones that were his favorites. Thank you for reviving that memory!!
