Come learn with me how to create a form to make square epoxy coasters with 5.56/223, 9mm, 22 LR brass casings. You could totally do this with other small items or trinkets such as bottle caps, cuts of wood, really anything. It was a ton of fun to put together and one of the easier epoxy projects I have done. Resin art is so cool and I’m just getting started with the epoxy resin art.
Please feel free to ask me any questions about this DIY Project and share your own epoxy projects with me! I would love to hear/see what other people are doing! I hope to have inspired you to get after your own projects!
For those who may be curious, I used Total Boat Thickset Epoxy and Black Diamond Pigment bought on Amazon. (Affiliate Links)

these look very awesome . if you don't mind ( and i hope you don't) i would like to make a small suggestion . next time you make something like these , instead of making them flat , make them with small ridges around the sides . that way it catches the condensation from your cold / ice drinks .

Ooo... no I appreciate the tip. I like the idea. Maybe make it a little thicker than I had it and router out the center leaving a thin ridge around the edge? This would perhaps make having a clear top a bit more challenging but I’ll think on it. May have to try it. Any thoughts on how to keep it clear on top as to see the brass casings?

Those turned out with a real BANG! The background color does remind me of gunpowder, since it's along that gunmetal color. I've been testing some epoxy resin projects over the past 2 months, and the one similar to this didn't turn out too well. lol. I used some of the thin silicone mold coaster sets off Amazon. I used 1/64 scale Hot Wheels and cut the sides to lay flat and attempted to grind the wheels to do the same. The first issue was on 2 of the coasters- I CA glued each HW side and wheels to the coaster. After the epoxy dried, I pulled the coasters, no problem, but you could feel the backside of the truck on the bottom. And the glue ruined those 2 coasters. lol. The 2 coasters I didn't glue didn't turn out much better! The wheels and the body kept floating around. I adjusted and heat gunned them 3 times before letting them dry complete. One looks like it has hydros and the other looks like a wheel came off the lugs. That would be awesome if that were my intention. lol. And they all had quite a bit of bubbles only around the body of the HW. So my question for you is (sorry for the long detailed story)- Can you feel the casings on the bottom side of your coasters? And did you have any problems with air bubbles? I didn't notice any in your vid. Thanks for sharing this.

Haha “with a real bang” I love it. Thank you! I am glad you liked the video I really did like how the gunpowder affect turned out too. Oh I see, yeah epoxy can be really tricky I have found with other projects. These coasters largely by luck came out very well. You can see the casings where I sanded the bottom just a little bit but it is not really distinguishable from the epoxy bottom other than color. As far as the hot wheels cars go I am not sure what you could do to keep wheels stationary the hot glue idea sounded good I probably would have done the same. Sorry that didn’t come out as you wanted. Maybe use like clay? Did you try sanding the bottoms down after the epoxy had set? Also, what epoxy did you use? For me, a little bit of use with the heat gun with the Total Boat DEEP SET worked just fine. I would love to see pictures of you have any to share with me and follow up with you on this. If you would like message me on Instagram ( instagram.com/tbbuildsco?) or email me (tbbuildsco@gmail.com) Thanks again for sharing!

Genial trabajo.

Google translate: [Thank you! Most epoxy is thermal resistant up to 150 C or 300F. They make epoxy that is resistant to higher temperatures tho. Hope that helps.]

Heat gun way better than torch. Looks like you didn't hit the Becker sign with it, should be able to see the difference. Like the coasters!

Yeah agreed found that one out. I did not no and I forgot to put a seal coat for the wood on those but to be honest I like how it turned out. Thanks for the tip and I am glad you liked the coasters!

How long did you wait to place brass after pouring the gray base layer? Thanks
@TBBuilds
@TBBuilds Жыл бұрын
I placed the brass right after I used the heat gun on the epoxy I just poured. So they sank to the bottom and when I sanded the bottom of the coaster, I exposed some of the brass. Depending on the diameter of the brass casing, I could have waited for the gray layer of epoxy to fully set and then place the brass casings to keep it from sitting all the way at the bottom and then pour the clear.

I used a router with a chamfer bit… although in hindsight that wasn’t the safest way, should have a router table to hold the router for things like that.
