Not likely the best light still, but at least they’re not operating on decades old tech. Love the turbo series so far. Excited to see streamlight just dropped their new PRO HLX. It’s a new tailcap design that’s dual function (crane plug or button backup) and 50K candela. That might quickly take over as my go-to “budget friendly” option for rifles that aren’t the main squeeze. Hope to see a video from you on it when it drops.

Yes... this is a very real thing. I mentioned in a comment that gun accessories can easily become another consumer habit just like anything else. If we're being realistic, I think it comes down to wanting to have the latest and greatest on your rifle so you can look at it and feel good. Realistically I think I've used my white light less than 10 times while actually shooting, but use my pocket light daily.

I know this might be too big for some, but if you are chasing candela the Modlite HOG WML has that covered at 170,000 with a 3 hour run time. I don't run any night vision, so my duty weapon is dedicated white light only. the size of the HOG has not bothered me.

I sold all my Cloud lights (6 of them) and went back to surefire with the new DFT's. I could not stand the short ass cables on the the cloud switches. I have a baby 300 BO PDW and the cloud switch cable still was not long enough to get the switch where I wanted it. The Surefire switches are just lower profile too and I can get 7" cables that actually work on my setups. I wanted to like cloud but they refused to update the switches.

2:11 yeah I think the Rein 3.0 and it's equivalents are about as good as it's going to get with the LED tech we currently have as far as the mix of throw vs flood. unless something major happens in technology like battery life or something, I think WMLs have kind of peaked for a while

As an owner of a m300 DFT and cloud defense rein 3.0 (legacy and non legacy) surefire falls short on useable spill, it’s all candela. Not bad for the price though

Weltool lights are a strong contender. The LH8 head has 1200 lumens, 80k candela and fits on surefire bodies and uses same accessories. And its less than half the price! They have a bunch of different heads and bodies. Should definitely check them out!

I've been using goonbeam for both rifle and pistol lights for a few years now. It's a streamlight footprint but with MUCH better candela and lumens. I'm actually shocked how well their v1 short is. I believe it's 600 lumen but has 60k candella, all in a tlr 1 footprint.

I got my 2 Rein 3.0s for only $270 on sale, and they came with outstanding pressure pads that I feel like I can actually trust. After having five separate streamlight pressure pads fail me on five separate lights, as well as 2 replacement pads from streamlight, I got tired of the BS. I trust streamlight pistol lights and handhelds with my life, but I no longer trust their rifle lights/pressure pads. I'm definitely happy with my two Cloud Defensive lights. The Rein 3.0s are legit. 😊

I'd recommend checking out the Weltool lights, namely the LH8 heads (W65B or W65C as an actual WML body). Weltool uses the same ANSI spec as Surefire to measure lumens where its the output after a few seconds, where Cloud, Modlite, and most others measure at 'at-on', which is generally about 10% higher than a matching ANSI rating. All that to say, the LH8 can be had for $120 during Black Friday sales, and punching up at 86k candela and 1300 lumens puts it at a vastly better price to performance ratio than any of the other 6 digit lights. I love mine and will shamelessly simp

it's not just "after a few seconds", it's after THIRTY seconds to 30 minutes (or 20 minutes? I can't remember rn.). So,, for many of these lights it is unfortunately usually much lower than their instant-max at turn-on levels of output, and about 25-50% of their life before they throttle to 50% of their peak output anyway. So they make the argument that, "Hey, ANSI specs are not a very good indicator for the performance of a weapon light. What matters more is the instant max potential and having your light be as bright as possible as fast as possible and just run it hard even if it means it needs to start dumping load and throttling fast. Because many lights are designed to be used very very sparingly. They aren't designed to run for 30 seconds straight, let alone SEVERAL HOURS straight. So there is definitely good reason for a lot of these makers to 'pick their metrics', because ANSI is very unfair in a lot of ways to the currently trending use doctrine for WML's

Ill never run SF rifle mounted light again after having a new 600DF die on me next to a SFWC on mission. Been running Modlite OKW and even next to a SFMB on a 10.3 and all has been well for many years. Even have one next to a 13” SCAR-H SFMB and its been just fine. SF rifle lights just arent it anymore.. Still run their x300 for now.

I had a x400v-b on my Flux Raider and the IR laser kept losing zero. I found that after 1600+/- rounds the x400v-b clamp on mount was slowly eating away at the polymer pic rail. I then switched to a x300t-a with a older Scout IR lense cap and had been perfect.

When I got into WMLs, all I could afford was Streamlight, so thats what rode on all my guns. Then a few years ago I was able to afford Surefire. I bought several Surefires to be part of the cool guy club. After several melted diodes, several warranty claims and an time of 6 months in for warranty on one of them before the Surefire Rep offered a different light as replacement (as "we do not have an expected time to get the parts to repair your light"). Ive ordered another Streamlight.... In my job I use a handheld multiple times a day, and my first Streamlight 2LX I bought for $50 and have had for many years in in my pocket way more than the $250 plus Fury or the now replacement Peacekeeper. Looking into other offerings like Modlight, but really fear they will be the same big price for poor quality as Surefire. I know Streamlight isnt end of the world Will Smith against the Robot Zombie Vampires, but at a fraction of the price, I can afford to replace them if I get consistent problems.

Ive had problems with ALL 5 Stream light rifle lights I've had. I have 4 pistol lights that are great, but their rifle pressure pads are TRASH. Legit all 5 I've had, HLXs, RM2s ECT. Every single one. Pad problems for life. I no longer trust them with my life. I sold them all except 1 HLX with the button tail cap on a Shotgun. But their pistol lights and handhelds I love, I have over a dozen different Streamlights, but never again for the rifle lights

Same deal except with a MI mlok handguard. I'm running a Surefire Vampire, but I have it on the right side of the rifle on a gooseneck mount and run the tape switch cable along the bottom of the handguard and have the button under my thumb. The magpul mlok mount with the SR-07 switch is low pro enough that it stays out of the way of the charging handle

@@gunterstraus606 I was originally going to go with a Spuhr handguard as well, but the MI handguard won out just because I had so many extra mlok things from my AR builds. I haven't tested it with a laser so no idea if it'll hold zero, but instead of the push-button pin, it uses a screw, and there's a bit of adjustment for fit, so as long as you blue locktite everything, it should be stiff enough. (And lets be real, it just needs to be zeroed enough to shoot at stuff under 150yrds or so. Any farther and you should be using your optics with a clip on NVG or thermal anyway imo).

Sorry, I'm really confused. What is the benefit of this light over the Rein 3.0? Or like the Weltool W65L (The LEP light with spill lens, which hits 175,000 candela and like 700 lumen). Or like a Z-Bolt high candela light? But especially the Rein 3.0... like is it better to have a smaller beam pattern on this light vs the Rein 3.0? Is it more practically usable vs the rein? Or is it literally just the higher battery life and the switch compatibility? Because the Rein 3.0 with a tail cap adaptor or the legacy body can use all the surefire stuff now.

the jack cap on the pro sucks for one specific reason : it's designed for their tape switch plug that LOOKS like crane, but it's not crane, which is obnoxious. And the switch plug doesn't stay in the cap's jack very well at all. It wiggles everywhere and mine wouldn't even hold contact, even while brand new out of the box.

I have the surefire m340dft the shorter turbo light on one of my rifles and i have had some flickering issues with it, changed out the tail cap to one of my others i had laying around and it seemed to have fixed it hopefully. Only time will tell.

It is no comparison to the Zbolt in throw, that is the nature of Zbolts ridiculous LEP outputs. LEP wins that all day, the diffusers they have now are really well done as well. I just wish the felt as bomb proof as a Surefire. Granted I’ve had mine for 8 months now and it’s ran like a champ, the quality just feels iffy to me.

I wasn’t meaning to be critical. I also think the cost difference between a protac hlx and any of the super high candela lights is probably not worth the performance difference, at least for civilians on a budget. But I also 100% feel the consooomer pull to want the newest coolest piece of kit, as I suspect we all do.

Do any weapon lights have a low throw option, like for clearing your house? I know O-light had the valkyrie with a low blue light, like 5 lumens? (I only ever saw a ad for it).

Yeh, it's called USE A DIFFUSOR. You can't just 'change the setting' digitally or whatever, that makes no sense. Just put a diffuser of ANY KIND on the front. You can even just smear a lil vaseline on the lens and you have flood

How does this work w the Arisaka momentary tailcap? My normal m600df can have some sporadic flickering w the momentary tailcap, which is really annoying. Definitely want to see that light buyers guide, hopefully you'll do that in early 2024

I would love to see you and Hop do a poverty tier kit vs a "fuck you money" kit. Like everything all put together, and see just how much capability gap the whole package adds up to, and where the critical performance metrics intersect to really make something more capable. People could, I think, greatly benefit from some insights into where their dollars should go from a cost-performance ratio regarding a full kit. Like obviously nobodys gonna drop 800 on a backpack if they're running an Amazon mystery meat red dot. But which makes sense to upgrade first, a PSA blem special, or the SLx you slap on top of it, is something of an open question.

Last time messing around in the desert, I was running a LEP light, and a HL-X for flood. Would be kinda nice if these two functions were available in a single light. One of the points you brought up, is the ultra-throw lights tend not to blind you by illuminating stuff in the foreground. One time I was magdumping on a large herd of wild pigs while out in the cow pasture, after the first two shots, I couldn't see anything. The more I shoot at night, the more important this feature is to me.

perhaps, could rig up something like a x600v with rotating heads. Im not sure it's really needed tho. The LEP beam is so tight/niche that almost no one would buy that.

@@BrassFacts I use it for taking longer range shots looking through optics. Trying to light up stuff at 4-600 yards the spill in the foreground just makes it really hard to see the further targets.

Weltool has an LEP head with some degree of flood. The Rein 3.0 has impressive range even though it's not an LEP

Look up "Z-Bolt LED & LEP DUAL Body Weapon Light," or "DUAL Body LEP & Infrared Weapon Light" or "DUAL Body LED & Infrared Weapon Light", and also "BLAZER Zero - Click Adjustable Picatinny Mount". This is the answer you are looking for. this allows you to actually USE an LEP light in a way that makes sense. Cause now you have a way to zero everything up so that the LEP actually is just a big active aiming solution. imagine looking through your scope with your LED light and your LEP running, and you literally draw a big circle of light around your target with a big dot in the middle -- it's like you've made an Eotech reticle in real life
