do you know which batteries you are using for the exposure meter its says 1,35 volt but they are discontinued
@thefilmwave
@thefilmwave 2 жыл бұрын
They are px 625 batteries and it’s fine if they are 1.5 volt. They should be 1.35 v.
@darkcustomxxx7252
@darkcustomxxx7252 2 жыл бұрын
PX 625 Hearing aid batteries are 1.4v and suit most cameras. You may need an adapter to fit in certain cameras, although as long as the cap screws in properly it usually holds them in. Using any batteries higher than 1.4v can cause irregular exposure readings, i.e; over exposed by a stop or so. If your camera has a manual exposure function, use that in that situation.

thank you! do you know what's the difference in the numbers ? (e.g S801) ect. Also have you tried the Bolex Super 8 Cameras? any thought on that?
@thefilmwave
@thefilmwave Жыл бұрын
Simply put and most importantly, s8 cameras normally named after the lens. the first number is usually the zoom length s800 is 8x zoom. And the first two numbers are the the focal length 560- 56mm. I’d stay away from super 8 bolex cameras I haven’t had much luck with those. Beaulieu, canon, nizos are the best overall s8 cams. They will last a long time.
@Schneeeulenwetter
@Schneeeulenwetter Жыл бұрын
@@thefilmwave thanks for this long message! So with S 801 the focal length will be 80, but the zoom ll also be 8x zoom. Where did you buy the bolexes (if any), I don't trust eBay with it, but the German one or a Swiss side might be okei
@thefilmwave
@thefilmwave Жыл бұрын
@@Schneeeulenwetter correct they are very similar aside from very minor differences. I’d go with the s800 with metal dials.. the plastic ones fail overtime and are very difficult to replace. I purchase my cameras anywhere they are sold. I’d stay away from the bolex s8 cams.

Thanks for the insightful video! I’m having a bit of trouble with the light meter on my Nizo S65 and wondered if you could help…I’ve loaded it with new AA and V625 batteries - motor drive works, but I don’t see the light meter indicator moving when recording. Could this mean that the meter is broken? Weirdly if I move the power switch to the black dot, the light meter indicator points to the 8, so something is working? Thanks for the help!

Which camera do you think has better picture quality this one or a Canon 814 auto zoom?
@thefilmwave
@thefilmwave 3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. I’ll note this question for a future video. There are many layers as to which is better, and some will disagree but as far as picture quality many people Prefer the 814.. I however think the s800 is better if you get a good one. Part of the reason that the s800 is unpopular is because it’s not as “light proof” as the 814. The side cover panels Meet the middle panel where the lens is located and often times people over look loose screws or misalignment. If there is any wiggle room between the aluminum covers of course there will be a light leak. This can be fixed by aligning covers properly and tightening screws. Also you can take the extra mile and tape the crease where connecting panels are located with some light seal tape

Does the motor (the disc for running the film) of the Nizo , run only when the film door is closed? Or should you notice it moving regardless if the film door is open or not? I just got myself a Nizo 801 Macro and when I press the trigger I can hear the shutter running perfectly on all speeds. But when I open the film door to check the actual disc it doesn’t appear to be moving when I press the trigger.
@thefilmwave

There is a pin that initiates the film advance upon closing. This allows the film to be inserted safely. Great design approach. You can see it by pressing the film advance pin with the film door open

@@thefilmwave thanks for the tip - it worked man! =) I just managed to open the compartment with the perfect tool (the backside of the handle of a cheese grater which had the perfect width and provided leverage and made it easy to apply pressure :D) Unfortunately, I noticed that the small mirror that projects the light into the view-finder came loose. I assume you know that problem of the glue breaking apart since it has already happened twice for me. Since I live in Germany, it’s not an option for me to send you the camera due to the super high shipping costs and custom issues - which is very unfortunate. Therefore, I wanted to ask if you have any tips on repairing this rather small problem myself? Which kind of glue would you recommend? And is there anything else to look out for? I have many of these on my website thefilmwave.com I have a s80 which is like the s800 with a compact lens. I haven’t posted it but typically in this range you can find one for half the price of the s800. But that s800 is with the extra penny. Also it’s all in the lens. Most nizos are all the same functionality wise. Once you get into the macro range they become expensive.

Hello Unfortunately there’s no autofocus feature, however you can use the infinity focal setting and it will focus the majority of your subjects. A tip for focusing is to zoom in on a subject, then focus accordingly, then zoom out and start shooting. This is how you focus directly on any subject using a reflex zoom camera.
