About the idea of Buck and Eddie's endgame being settled with just a mere bromance: resolution in Art is about "forbidden love", "return from a long voyage", "rescue from dire straits", "vengeance and justice acomplished" or "sacrifice and redemption". These have been the worthy, valuable and cherished endgames for thousands of years since lengthy and meaningful storytelling was invented by humankind for humankind. "Bromance" has never been included within the above-mentioned categories. That is why bromance is such bad idea for an endgame. Forbidden love may or may not apply and happen in this entirely fictional story for these characters but it would be the only emotionally satisfactory resolution for their trajectories together. Any other ending would be a very lukewarm, insipid and tepid solution with no drama, gracefulness, congruity and elegance at all.

That’s mostly because even the term “bromance” is a very recent addition to the language. There’s much to be said about friendships that become as close as family and the importance of family, not just those they’re related to by blood by by those we choose to make part of our family. Ultimately, having these characters become better humans and go on to have healthier love lives (and possibly life partners) even if its not with each other would be just as good in my opinion.

@@MissLilyputt The word is quite new indeed; the corresponding behavior as described immemorially in fiction or history as kind of very intimate male friendship with no sex not so much. My point, which I respectfully maintain, is that there has not been any storytelling endgame whatsoever with the perspective of what we would nowadays call a "bromance", duly characterized by its elements, foremost of which is no erotic involvement at all between the two male protagonists who are solely playmates. If you can find me one example of the sort and I am quite open to your suggestions, please enlighten me.
