I thought the same, while studying you have to be fully concentrated, you usually use headphones for music, and you disconnect from your surroundings. I would expect the school to have a loud alarm for cases like this. But the reality is that you cannot be fully disconnected from your surroundings anywhere, since attacks can occur anywhere. Maybe use just one earphone, take breaks to stand up and walk a bit around your place, etc.

We would also get ads inside of videos, which are 100x worse (to me). Since I would have to skip those while working. I don't care what I'm doing, if I hear a door open or footsteps approaching I always just take a quick glance. Literally a quick half second glance just to see who is there. It's a simple habit that could save your life. I do think that kid should have been more aware but then again being self aware is a self taught thing that most people don't know or care for. It's usually the people like us that conceal carry and learn defense that live a life of awareness and vigilance because we aren't gonna be some damn sheep for slaughter.

Here ill give an example of how darker humor works with a true story. I loved my Grandma, so much that she wasn't actually my grandmother, but my Mother's Aunt but I had only her for most of my life and I grew up calling her Grandma. She passed away a few years ago. She was found dead on the toilet. She had gotten up in the middle of the night, went to the toilet, fell asleep on the toilet and passed away. I cried. But, it was also funny once I got over the shock of it all, what away to go, to be found dead taking a shit. That's funny. That doesn't mean I didn't love her, even today I can find a picture of her and get a sad smile as I remember how kind she was to me and I try not to tear up. But I still find how she died funny. Finding something dark funny isn't lack of empathy, its trying to avoid the painful or awkward air of a tragedy. I find how idiotic this situation was, hilarious, and a stupid person getting hurt, predictable and amusing. I don't hate the women, and I even feel sorry for her, but its still funny.
