@@NWOtion I had not played the other two games before BDII, but I was very aware of how they played and how the story went, and still loved this one till the end. The soundtrack is godlike, the story in my opinion is not as good as the first games, but still a good one. The first 4 chapters are incredibly well-written and a blast to play through, while the ending feels a bit rushed. The ending scene is so freaking good. Love this game to absolute death, but Ouroboros remains the undisputed best final boss of the series. Not even just the series, a top tier final jrpg boss of all time. That said, they nailed the tracks for Night's Nexus, incredible music.
@blackknightjack38503 жыл бұрын
I dunno. Ouroboros is a lot more underwhelming than people seem to treat him as. Airy was a harder boss fight than he was by quite a bit. The one and only thing Ouroboros has going for him is Disaster and it's not really that difficult to neutralize it even with your white mage incapacitated by Divergence. For me I'd say the best is Providence even though he's very much the easiest. While you can absolutely cheese the hell out of both fights with Calm, I still respect that Square tried to do something really unique with him. He wasn't just some big monster who threw random shit at you or something like Zeromus that spammed the same overpowered move over and over again. There were tricks and gimmicks you had to puzzle out like any other boss. Sure they could have balanced him a lot better so that he wasn't such a pushover when you DID puzzle out the gimmicks, but it's the thought that counts.

Yeah, I feel after Chapter 4 or 5, the game's story took a nosedive. I honestly felt they shouldn't had treated the two bad endings as such, as it's not really alternate endings if you were FORCED to get them before you can get the true ending. In that regard, they shouldn't had bothered making Gambler and Salve-Maker sub-quests if you were gonna have to do them anyways. And as everyone else stated, Night's Nexus (and Edna) were both dreadfully underdeveloped. I mean, you literally had to find out of the way diaries to learn that Night's Nexus is Godric (Gloria's grandfather)'s sister, who in turn is actually the Gloria lookalike on the cover (this was only revealed in an Famitsu interview, which is BS).

Villains tend to be absolute idiots when it comes to unleashing destructive evils that only exist to decimate everything in their path. They need to realize why such plans are a bad idea. What’s the first thing such an evil is going to kill -and possibly devour- once it’s released? Whoever released it!
@chrisdaughen52573 жыл бұрын
Wanting an evil god to devour everything (including yourself) is not the worst motivation for a JRPG villain. However, we are given NO reason why Edna wants the world to burn when her friends say she actually liked humans. I was expecting to find something similar to Helmbrum from "Seven Deadly Sins" and maybe she was tricked into getting tortured by humans, making her incredibly nihilistic and seek out the Night's Nexus. But she's dropped out of the plot before we learn anything about her and it's so disappointing.

A lot of unanswered questions. What was Seth's original world? Were they just saying he should belong to the world of the dead? I thought he was from the world of Bravely Default 1 which is why he was the only character with an American accent. Why did Edna come to hate humans? It could be that the Night's Nexus influenced her, but it's never stated. Nothing was really done with Emma. I was expecting her to show up at some point to make up for the fact you're given the black mage asterisk without a boss fight. You just fight her phantom in an optional group boss fight. Does this have anything to do with the ending of Bravely Second with the Sword of the Brave and Deneb? Fairies are clearly different in this game.
@voidoflight24203 жыл бұрын
The game's unrelated to the original or Bravely Second. That's why there's no cryst fairies, and why the sword of the brave isn't even in the game. What makes me wonder is why the game tells you Seth's life got cut short, but they never explain further on how he died exactly, or what happened.

@@chrisdaughen5257 When you delete the Nexus’s save file, you are treated to a cutscene of hands grasping someone in first person, likely with killing intent. Then, the camera pans from there to the ocean, then to the beach where Seth first woke up. When using the omnibrave to save Seth, the Nexus tries that same attack, but Seth avoids it by releasing the bravery inside of him. One of the Nexus’s attacks is called “A Life Cut Short” and deals instant death. Mag Mell has a diary that says Inanna (Night’s Nexus human form named after an Egyptian goddess) came there with a black-haired companion. He’s never named, but it’s interesting that Seth is also an Egyptian god… All things considered, Seth was probably this partner. The one who cut his life short was likely the Nexus after gaining such power and terrible knowledge.
@chrisdaughen52573 жыл бұрын
@@Hadaron Yeah I thought of that. Inanna probably robbed Seth of all his memories of her when she killed him. The game tries to fool you into thinking he died in the shipwreck, but the shipwreck was probably the last memory he had before he met her. It’s just a shame the game never really incorporates Seths past into the story (if it’s true). Btw I think the gimmick with the party members is that they’re all named after famous singers. I forget the others’ last names, but Elvis Wesley is a spin-off of Elvis Presley. So I don’t think it has anything to do with the Egyptian god.

Like I won't deny I'm sad it doesn't really have any narrative connections to BD1 and that the narrative hook with Ringabel's organization wasn't pursued, but its still a well done story. Honestly I'd go so far as to say that all the characters in this game are on the same level, if not higher, than Bravely Default. They just feel better thought out and implemented, especially the Asterisk bearers and other minor characters.

if this is the second game then what's Bravely Second?
@adegu3 жыл бұрын
Well, technically, it isn't the second game, but bravely second was great imo
@archangelmichael19783 жыл бұрын
Having played all of the above and without spoilering, this is how I see it. Bravely Default (the original) with Tiz and friends wraps up with a cliffhangerish ending. Like a TV show or movie that has a teaser at the end. To be continued. Bravely Second is the continuation or second half of the original Bravely Default story. Bravely Default 2 exists in a completely different timeline from BD1. BD2 is it's own stand alone story with all new characters, no mention of Tiz or the others. You could play BD2 without ever playing BD1 and the story is intact. So, Bravely Second: End Layer is a continuation of BD1. You'd really need to play BD1 first before Bravely Second would make sense. That said, the two stories of BD1 and BD2 are not connected at all. Completely separate. As for the chronological order, I'm guessing BD2 happens before BD1 because there's tech in BD1, but no real tech in BD2 aside from an airship and it was thought to be incredible and mind blowing to power a ship with a crystal. Also, the crystals are small in this game. Hand held size. They're HUGE in BD1. It's my opinion that the Bravely Default Universe storyline is being given to us in a reverse chronological order like Star Wars. BD2 the crystals are small, there's no advanced technology, research is being done on how to harness the power of asterisks and crystals. Fast forward to BD1 and they've learned how to grow the crystals in size and power, they use asterisks, power ships, and entire cities with the crystals. After playing BD2, BD1 now makes a lil bit more sense. So, in closing, based on my opinion, if you wanted to play the entire Bravely Default series in the storyline's chronological order (not by release date), you would want to play it in this order. Bravely Default 2 -> Bravely Default 1 -> Bravely Second: End Layer.
