Nice video by the way! :D That GJ cut was great too! I am not a huge fan of Bravely series as much as the others (and I have a hard time finishing it without getting bored) but the real reason I got the game is because of Revo (Sound Horizon!!!) but when I saw Ryo Supercell doing it...well...it's hard to compete with a guy with years of experience and have a real orchestra. And it probably didn't help that ryo is more of an anime composer? But yeah, I had a hard time finding reasons to buy Bravely Second once I finish default ahaha;;;
@HonestPhil8 жыл бұрын
+Archeia If the main draw of bravely default really was the music instead of the characters then I'd say skip the series. However, Bravely Second is not as tedious in its narrative. If you played Bravely Default you probably know what I mean. Doing stuff again and so on. Also, thanks~

The music is probably the biggest disappointment to me, as Bravely Default has one of my favorite gaming soundtracks I heard in quite some period of times. Pieces stayed with you, and they were something you'd want to listen to over and over. While, as you said, the new songs by Ryo aren't bad but they come across as something I like to call "generic rock soundtrack" and lack that same individual personality each song gave an area, or a character. Your reviewing sure has come a long way since you reviewed Bravely Default! Both in terms of visual presentation and audio. I've always liked how detailed your reviews are, and covering very key points (easy to abuse systems, etc) that I look for when I want to pick up a game. Though, I will admit while I really enjoyed the GoatJesus cameo the scene felt a bit random and out of the blue. Nonetheless, fantastic work and it's always great to see new content from you!
@HonestPhil8 жыл бұрын
+Cyanide Blizzard Thank you! yeah, I feel very similiar about this whole music stuff. I mean its nobodys fault since it was a matter of scheduling and what not and Ryo really seemed like he cares, but his style just ain't my thing. The reason for that Goat Jesus camea was more a less a try at making this video less dry. I do think my style is very mundane honestly. While its true that my ability to point out important aspects is one of my strenghs the overal tone is very... you know un-fun? So I wanted to compensate with that. Dunno whether it was such a good idea, but the theme censorship seemed off-topic enough that it warrants its own special segment.
@CyanideBlizzard8 жыл бұрын
+Honest Phil Oh absolutely, I completely agree. Ryo is more than talented enough, and deserves a great deal of praise for the music they've put out. It's just a tough act to follow when Revo did, in my book, well beyond any expectations I would of had. Oh, I can completely understand the desire to do so! It's actually why I don't do videos reviews myself. To give you an example, when I use to do anime wallpaper critique I was known for being "that guy who writes a lot". So, my reviews were detailed, but incredibly dry and mundane in video format. However, I feel you've got more than enough character and you keep you content light. Little touches like keeping in a mistake, or when you go on a little bit of a side note with your personal thoughts. Believe it or not, but after the reviews you've done I consider this to be your style. That, to me, is really the shine of it all. I can definitely get wanting to spice things up, and I actually rather liked the segment, but I only felt it was out of place with the rest of the video. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, and Goat Jesus brings life to any party he's at, but with the overall video it felt like it might of been done for another review instead. Of course, my content is quite far from perfect so I'm hardly one to say.

The two things I have to say about the composer change are 1. Why couldn't they have kept You are my Hope for Tiz and Baby Bird for Edea? 2. Revo's schedule had better have a good reason to not be in Bravely Second... something like Attack on Titan season 2
@HonestPhil8 жыл бұрын
+Kenny Hine 1. Maybe they thought that the theme of Tiz and Edea would have clashed too much with the new ones from Magnolia and Yew. Or they wanted to show a certain growth, thus choosing a new theme for them. 2. Dunno the details but there better be a good reason, yes^^

I think i'm cool with the mission outcome since that was through japanese player input. Also i need that wallpaper from the selling point screen lol. Edit: I was typing as I was watching Edit 2: Ok so I just noticed this but with the japanese audio I think either square or nintendo of america didn't bother to give you text for that audio. A prime example being magnolia and her english quips with the japanese vo, instead you still see the english script which is lazy on their part. Now I don't even know if I'm getting an actual translation...

Great review. So, uh, is it wrong that I didn't really pay much attention to the music in the first game? It didn't give me the same feeling like Xenoblade Chronicles did. I barely used special attacksd because they didn't do much damage. The music in this game seems fine to me, with some very noticeable songs from the 1st game. Just like the first game, it has nothing I'll hum off to.
@HonestPhil8 жыл бұрын
+Crono Weaker than regular attacks? Well you can upgraden them during the town rebuilding part of the game. Another benefit of the special attack is the group buff which can stack with other special attacks. Well, music is also a matter of taste so its more each to his own you know^^ The fact that they re-use a lot of tracks from the first game doesn't make the second much better in my opinion.
@crono30158 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I could never rebuild the town. Or barely is the better word. In fact, I had no idea I could upgrade the attacks. I didn't really notice much of a buff when I did have a character use a special attack.
@HonestPhil8 жыл бұрын
Crono That's unfortunate. It does help a lot for your gaming progress. If you canÄt get enough streetpasses you can always get people via connecting to the internet in the game. You get 1 worker in Bravely Default each day and even 5 in Bravely Second just by loging in. (there is also an exploit for the bravely default demo that could give you 20).

My favorite character from Bravely Second: Revanant. (Spoilers below, you're warned) Whaaaat? The ghost armor kid? No way! Well first off, this is my opinion, not fact. And let me explain why. Revanant is a little kid whose daddy you killed. He's mad, and he's going to try and make you pay for killing him. He wants his daddy back so much, and he (rightfully) blamed you. But then he tells the story of how he died.... "I was there at the docks, and then the boat came!... But you werent there... something else was, something horrible. Thats how i died... The next thing i knew, i was in this suit of armor, and you were there with me. You seemed happier, and you laughed more too! Hahahahaha! .........We were gonna be together forever, daddy.... ...No! I dont wanna go back to that cold, dark place! I dont wanna die again!" Revavanent was a little kid who lost his father, and was trying to avenge him. Seeing that cutscene brings tears to my eyes every time, and i wont ever be able to forget Revanent.

I just want to know if Tiz is even mediocrely interesting. In the first game, Tiz legitimately didn't bring ANYTHING to the conversations. NOTHING. Even during major plot points he just said stuff like "I'm with Anges on this one!" or "Hi, I'm Tiz, I used to live in a village, but it got destroyed." (That's not a spoiler, it literally happens less than a minute in. Like actually 47 seconds.) I was actually genuinely surprised when he brought that stuff about the spices in your shoes near the end of chapter 4 to light. What's worse is that I'm pretty sure Yew is just Tiz 2.0; book smart edition, and from playing the demo, I'm pretty sure I'm right. Just tell me, please, I'm dyin' man.
@HonestPhil8 жыл бұрын
+Ambiticus Tiz seems more adult but he does take a backseat for the other characters. Its just nice that he seems wiser, but he doesn't really add THAT much more. Which is okay cause the story ain't about him, it's about Yew. Yew as I said in the video did grew on me over time. I was very skeptical about him at first as well, but I did grow to like him more than Tiz anyway. (who is just a nice guy character lol)

I can understand why. I've played MANY JRPGs, and some of the ones which took 100-200 hrs to complete.... well, let's say a substantial amount of that was grinding, and it almost always ruins the game for me. Imagine you're about to fight the final boss and then discover beating it is impossible. 20 hrs of grinding later, the game is beat, but the momentum is derailed and I've already become thoroughly bitter and hate the game. LOL.

Hello Honest Phil, I was wondering what other 3ds rpgs do you reccomend? What do you think of SMT IV or Atlus games? *btw, cool video, I might go out and buy the first game :)
@HonestPhil8 жыл бұрын
+Jose Carlos Padilla I've yet to play one of the Sin Megami Tensei games. However, I am a fan of the Etrian Odyssey series. In particular the remakes which added a story mode. I own the first remake "Etrian Odyssey Untold" and I did have a lot of fun with that. The second one is out as well I haven't gotten that one yet though. I recommend playing the demo, as it gives good insight whether the series would be something for you. (bravely default and second have a demo as well, while it doesn't tell you much about its story it helps you to get a grasp for the combat.) It's better explained in the full game though. A no-brainer would be Fire Emblem Awakening. You probably already know that it exists. A turn based/tactical kinda game. (Unfortunately it has no demo). Monster Hunter 4 is insanely fun as well, but it doesn't really have much of a story. The game is a grind to play through yes, but it also has a very addicting formula of "slay monster, make cool armor, slay bigger monsters". There is a short demo out which you can play with friend too. (it has the longest playtime on my 3ds by the way 274 hours!) Which I mostly played with strangers cause no one owned that game from my friend circle... However if you play it with a friend it gets like so much better than it already is. Completely forgot I wanted to make a video about that game. Hm, other than that. I'm afraid I can't think of many other JRPGs that really impressed me. There is also the Tales of the Abyss remake but I haven't played that one yet. I heard its kinda so-so. Not really a JRPG but more a Visual Novel/Adventure is "Virtue's Last Reward". A pretty cool game as well, if you have fun solving puzzles. Unfortunately that game had some save-breaking issues which you should look up before. I didn't and I lost 11 hours of progress cause of that. Huge bummer. Aside from that its pretty cool though.

+Honest Phil I already own MH4 and Fire Emblem, they are really good. Are you looking forward for the new MH and have you played FE: Fates?
@HonestPhil8 жыл бұрын
I have heard pretty bad thinks about the new MH. Apparently they re-use A LOT of assets. Like more than usually. No G-rank (those are rumors so far though). I'll wait for Pro Jareds review, who got me into the series. I don't care about Fates. Like, I love the games but I'm not too fond about this whole pet-game-affection thing. It's just so weirdly made for the "my waifu" crowd. Leaves a bad taste for me. Though, the real reason why I won't get fate is this whole, you have to buy two versions and a big DLC to actually get the full story bs. I'm sure the game in itself is great, but I don't want to support nintendo's way of making money via this split of content.

+Jose Carlos Padilla SMT IV is a freaking Nightmare I LOVE IT!! is freaking HARD right from the start, it can be unfair specially at first man the first bosses in the game are such a pain but once you build a good thing and get bbeter skills, levels and Demons to Add you the game gets a lot easier. The story is Excellent, dark but not edgy with 3 endings 3 final bosses outcomes and you will care about the characters and their fates at the end....it was a fun ride.

the game has some good points like slight improvements to the graphics and gameplay but then there are some bad points like the continue dragging/backtracking along side that unnecessary convoluted story I was also not a fan of how much parody like/dumb down the characters I knew from the first game felt all and all the game is pretty much more of the same so my score won’t be any different 5/10 also Magnolia is best waifu and mines alone BITE ME!!!!! I skipped the Bravely games entirely. Reviews pretty much told me they don't do anything particularly ground-breaking. And I still have games from the golden age of JRPGs (PS1-2) in the 1990s/2000s haven't experienced. The Bravely games sound like they are largely traditional, but I just don't see anything there that looks like it exceeds the mastery of games like FFVII, FFVVIII, Xenogears, or Golden Sun. Doesn't help that the price of Bravely Default stubbornly has stayed at about $60 for years now (and still in 2020). No thanks. I'll go buy 2-3 older games which are just as good for that price.
