a little detail from the picture at 25:34 -- In Brazil, between 1940 and 80, a technique called "fotopintura" was very popular, a hybrid between photography, portrait and painting The photopainter painted a photograph, sometimes from scratch, sometimes retouched from one that already existed, he colored the photos and often placed more formal and presentable clothes in the families, such as suits and dresses and jewelry

@jimjimgl38 ай бұрын
An epic film. I saw this in the theater (I remember The Angelica Theater, downtown NYC) when it came out in 1998. I was very moved by the film. As my friend and I were leaving the theater and going up the escalator as a crowd was going down the escalator, my friend turned to me and said "that was a good movie." I turned to him and just started sobbing...I couldn't control my self and all the way up the escalator I cried--and not softly...🤪. I knew I looked like a madman but couldn't stop. I left the theater and turned into a corner of the building until I could regain my composure. The story of a child left alone in the world and helped by an older woman left alone in the world and then not really either of them finding the complete happiness they wanted was so raw...(but so perfect).
@CesarDainezi11 ай бұрын
Didn't see this being mentioned: Isaías, Josué's brother is played by Matheus Nachtergaele, a legendary brazilian actor which was Carrot in City of God and is one of the main actors in "O Auto da Compadecida" (A Dog's Will). On this track, A Dog's Will's screenplay was adapted from the book "Auto da Compadecida" by also legenday brazilian author Ariano Suassuna. Curiously, the books was translated "The Rogue's Trial", which is different from the movie, and its Brazilian title, if translated to the letter, means something like "Case File of Our Lady of Mercy". This movie, A Dog's WIll, is a everyone's favourite movie in Brazil, but I personally think it includes many Brazilian mannerisms, specially from the northeastern people, which might be untranslatable for a English speaking audience and, at the same time, an integral part of the play.

I have a recommendation: the same writer of this film made a Brazilian soap opera called "Avenida Brasil" (2012) with 260 chapters. The work stopped the country in the last chapter. The story is about a woman who abandons her widower's daughter in a landfill, a land full of rubbish and unemployed people. With that, this child promises to take revenge on her and when she becomes an adult, she pretends to be someone else to work inside the house of this woman she abandoned.

Esse filme é barra pesada... Homem feito chora, mulher adulta chora, eu choro, quantas vezes eu assistir. Vida...

Madvision, as a brazilian, thank you for recognizing “Central Station” for what it is: a masterpiece. Fernanda Montenegro gave the all-time best performance in brazilian cinema. She should have won the Oscar. For decades she was also our best stage actress, and is now retired over 90 years old. I consider “Central Station” the second best brazilian film of all time, the first being 1964 Glauber Rocha masterpiece “Black God, White Devil”. If you can, watch it.

Glad you accepted our suggestion, this is an unforgettable movie indeed, lovely and heartfelt reaction. And queen Fernanda, robbed at the Oscars! There's an incredible actor called Rodrigo Santoro, he's been in Hollywood for some time now but he was in 2 other amazing Brazilian movies back then, based on real life stories: Bicho de Sete Cabeças (2000) and Carandiru (2003).

Truth is, she's just so apathetic, so dead inside that she's almost becoming a complete monster before Josué shows up. Her first justifiable act in the movie is rescuing him from the fake orphanage.
