This video is about some classic Brazilian Postage Stamps from 1843-1917. Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world. It was a colony of Portugal from 1500 until 1815. Brazil was the second country in the world, after Great Britain, to issue postage stamps valid for use within the entire country. Like Great Britain's first stamps, the design of Brazilian first stamps do not include the country name. Brazil issued its first stamps on 1 August 1843. These stamps are commonly known as "Bull's Eyes" because of their distinctive appearance. On st1 July 1844 a new series of postage stamps was issued. This is known as the slanted numeral series. Subsequent stamps had similar design. However, the first pictorial stamps were issued in 1866 featuring a portrait of Emperor Dom Pedro II. In my video I have briefly defined the features of each stamp. Values mentioned are only for the stamp shown.
