I am ethnically South Asian, with very long hair and big beard. Learned quickly to keep my mouth shut in dodgy neighbourhoods with a serious expression on my face. They assumed I was local and ignored me. The few times I tried to speak my broken Portuguese.....just sends out an alert that I am a foreigner and probably got money! Brother I have done that, gone from Japan straight to Brazil and if you aren't alert you gonna get caught slipping. From one extreme of super safe, to another where you can get jacked for flashing a watch or camera.
