What did you want them to do, swap qualifying positions? They did a great job. They smartly allowed a drs train to make it difficult for Max and then swapped positions when they could do it without threat, despite your unfounded apprehension. Also, they didn't want to risk losing everything over a measly extra point either!! Btw, at Hungary and Monza, both drivers were still in the hunt for the championship. Don't forget this important point. Oh and btw, 'winning' like this is bogus. Lando should be unproud about it. Win by being genuinely faster, not by doing swapsies and having no1 statuses in your contract. As to Carlos, Ferrari were just shit in the Sprint. Leclerc got a good start, and got the drs benefit otherwise he was no where as well.

I agree. I normally agree with Spanners, but not here. Mclaren said after the race that Max was only one and a half seconds behind, they were hoping to stretch that gap to ensure a safe swap, but it didn't eventuate. They could swap at anytime, they wanted to minimize the risk. That's fully acceptable to me.

Seems like McLaren is a little bit risk averse still. Also seems like the 1-2 was priority over Lando P1 so they only wanted to swap if they could preserve the 1-2.

Piastri owes Lando nothing - he didn't ask for the win in Hungary but the team made a decision on his behalf. Piastri's management know this and won't let McLaren forget how bad it would be for them to be racing against Piastri in a RedBull next year.

Not swapping cars asap is why McLaren is the dumbest team on the grid as far as street smarts goes. Good thing for them the FIA and Netflix hates Max.

ferrari is closer to mclaren in the wcc than lando is to max in the wdc. and the wcc is not a matter of hoping ferrari fucks up rather than actively trying to beat them every race. the wdc is about lando winning AND hoping oscar and the ferraris get between him and max or max losing it and dnfing. in stifling oscar and making him go cautiously, mclaren runs the real risk of either or both of the ferraris overtaking him. and if you were to ask andrea or zak if they had to pick one of the two championships, unfortunately for most of y'all they will pick the wcc. i think all this tiptoeing over team orders makes it clear just how much they want an orange car bringing home the most points-no matter what number is on it.

Well stated Mr Spanners, "wierd". Lando seems to be getting a hint of frustration in his communication in a very passive aggressive way. Seems I have heard of a generalization regarding a person of British heritage.

First time I have watched this podcast, and the last - immature and silly. Not one expert supported allowing a pass into turn 1. That is the most unpredictable part of any race. Piastri earned the pole, earned the lead, helped with DRS and stepped aside without question immediately. You cannot 2nd guess the start. Agree they took too long to tell him but PIA did nothing wrong. Just another Lando love site.

I'm absolutely NOT a Verstappen fan, but Lando has zero chance to win the championship. Oscar forced to give up another win for no reason

Piastri does not want anyone else to win other than himself. By taking the lead, he allows Norris to be attacked, and if Norris is passed by Max or Charles, his 'obligation' to let Norris through falls away. I WISH Spanners, you would please appreciate that none of these drivers want their team mates to win. They are there for themselves. If the team benefits, then bonus. There are no nice guys in F1. The media loves playing the nice guy angle, but it is false. I wish we could celebrate their competitive instincts, such as Piastri closing the door on Norris in turn 1, than keep on with this narrative of playing a team game and everyone is buddy-buddy.

Piastri wants to help Lando 0%. Webber is in his ear scheming exactly how to be No. 1 next season to take a championship and hey that’s fine. Lando needs to be better and then when he’s ahead legitimately it’s easier to say hold position. This giving him spots is lame, for Lando included. Be better bud! Take the championship don’t back into it. Let’s see some fight!

If you could see the overall situation clearly enough from Piastri's perspective currently and into the near future (say next 2 years) and whether McLaren needs to keep him more than vice versa (unless Norris ups his mental game substantially and permanently), it's not that weird :)

The real stupidity of both McLaren and Pistri is that next year, Piastri might need Norris, while Norris is unlikely to actually win the WDC this year. Piastri is being a shortsighted child, despite clearly being the driver with most potential, with zero to prove. Hugs to Colapinto
