I don’t typically watch imports but I do respect what these guys are doing. Running 7.15 at over 230 MPH with a 1970’s stock block inline 6 in a small tire short wheelbase steel car with an H pattern manual is really impressive. Trying to manage the power and suspension in one of these things has to be really difficult. I may not know the cars but I know hot rodding and I tip my hat to these dudes. Obrigado!!

You hear so much shit about Brazil from the media and news and shit like that, but growing up at the track, the Brazilians are always some of the nicest people there. The track family is usually pretty nice and willing to help, but I remember the Brazilians and the guys from Louisiana always being the nicest. They’d help you find parts if you needed it, cook you some dinner if you’re busy rebuilding the top end for the next day, then jump in and help with the work while you took a break to eat. It’s been so long since I’ve spent that much time at the track and I miss it. I miss that camaraderie.

The V8s were quite rare in Brazil, due to our Budget GM preferred to bring the german Opel Rekord, but with a american powertrain, the L6 238/250 in the case. The name Opala is a cross between Opel and Impala, and is also the name of a precious stone here. It was sold here from 68 all the way through 92 using THE SAME monocoque basis,, just deeply facelifted. Today its really part of our folklore, and one of our most important cars ever.

As they are very rare, they are very expensive and difficult to find parts. So as Opalas and Caravans (station wagon version) were much more popular, they became one of the favorite cars in Brasil, and consequently one of the most popular engine to tuning/mod
