Out of all the inspirational tests I have watched from the Roy Dean School, this is probably the best. Those black and brown belts took everything from him. If you're holding back the tears at the end, you know you have left it all on the mat. Fantastic!

What a herculean effort. I'm a new white belt and I can't even comprehend this moment. Wow. I've seen Chris in other videos. He was a very good purple belt. Much deserved reward for all those years of hard work and dedication. Good for him.

Agreed - he was fed to the lions to take the larger part out of him. We all know, when exhaustion kicks in, your level goes down the drain quickly. The demo of techniques is already a hefty workout. After that, you're getting killed twice.... Solid, solid level of jiujitsu here.

Ive never seen a man get pushed to his limits in BJJ harder than this man. He constantly was under pressure, in pain, and "losing" those rolls. But he kept on fighting. He kept going and he showed not only skill, but heart, and desire to succeed. This man did everything in his power to obtain his brown belt and deserves every inch of that fabric. Saying congratulations feels like and understatement.

We literally go this hard every night, 6 days a week, roll 7 rounds, 6 min each. The big eye opener for me was when I did my first tournament and realized that it doesn't matter what you know if under pressure you can't execute it, by the 2nd tournament I struck gold and now understand what pressure on a small level is. Short answer is yes this man went hard, but if i can still talk at the end of rolling then I didn't go hard enough.

The best rolls for sure! It looked like Chris was drowning in quicksand as the black belt transitioned from position to position. That's not taking anything from Chris, because he was amazing, too!

@@ilyassnejjar6195 if I am not mistaken, Chris was the purple belt that dished out some tough rolls during the young black belt's test. It's amazing how much better the young black belt has gotten since his own test.

Of all of the “Crucibles”, this was my favorite. He’s so AGGRESSIVE and he’s arguably the most fluid in his techniques of anyone I’ve seen on these videos. Very good combination.

Yeah he's definitely a judoka. You can tell by how he breaks grips and sets up his throws. But from watching Roy Dean's students, they all seem to have better than average throws in comparison to a typical bjj player. Dean is a judo black belt I believe.

I used to want to just watch good bjj, and sort of assumed that I would "only" get it via competitions. Then I realised I wanted to watch people roll, not compete so I found great seminar videos from people like Lucas Lepri and the Mendes brothers. But it would be rare to find videos with that consistent excellent jiu jitsu mixed with great video quality. Then I found Roy Dean and I couldn't be happier. Watching the level of detail, the sheer willpower and the humble and professional mood throughout the videos just inspire me in so many ways. Thank you Prof. Dean and everyone else involved in these for the inspiration and for the feeling of something greater in life to pursue.

I love how all of Roy's students have just inherited his once uniquely exquisite fluidity and how thorough his training, such that from standing, sitting, prone for either attacker or defender, all the techniques look so…effortless. Not just a true master in his art but a black belt in teaching to boot. Bravo!

This is beautiful because I remember watching Roy’s videos a couple of years back when he got one of his stripes on his black belt. He did a similar gauntlet and his last match was with his master, I forget his name but I was so mesmerized from his style, slow and methodical, that I try to replicate that in my game. No wasted energy, and make every move count. Thank you for sharing all of this! Aloha from Hawaii!
