This was such a beautiful experience. I was in my psychology class right as it was about to come out and my psychology professor dismissed the class and invited us to listen to it with her live. Around 20 of us stayed and the experience was very surreal, almost spiritual. Many of us cried, laughed, hugged, etc. When it was done you could hear people sniffling. We talked about the people we missed (both dead and alive) and what a great ending note this was. I’m thankful for this experience and thank you for sharing your side of this with us. I will also be definitely taking a peak at the Patreon!!!

It is a true Beatles song, in every sense. Its has instant appeal and it's inventive and moving with a haunting melody and deceptively simple lyrics. John's and the guys voices just tug at the heartstrings. And the guitar and string arrangements are just amazing, as are Ringo's drum licks. What a finale!! It moved me to tears, too. And this is a beautiful review by a beautiful person. This vid has made my day. Thanks so much Lar. You're the best. xx

I listened when it first aired on the radio, I broke down in tears. All I can remember was receiving my first Beatles CD when I was 8 years old. It was The Beatles anthology vol 1. And then I started buying Beatles CDs, ok my parents did, but it drove me down a path of loving the Beatles. I really wish they would have also released carnival of lights and the 25 minute version of Helter skelter. But. It definitely was so many emotions running through me when I first heard it. Just found your channel today while looking for what folks thought of this song! Fantastic video and I have the same reaction to the song. To me, beyond it summing up an Earth-shaking recording career for The Beatles, it touches on so many emotions and goes deep into each. Personally, my older brother got me into Rock and Roll by giving me a copy of Let It Be when I was 5. When we both grew up, we would each sit together, have a couple beers and listen to favorite or new songs. He passed away in 2010, and this song makes me think of him, how we would have talked about this. He would have loved it, too, and it makes this such an emotional song for me.

OK, so after watching your take on this song, I completely get your reaction....I mean, I am 62 years old, had Sgt Pepper's sent to me, with other albums, it was what I consider a care package from a guitar playing cousin of mine, and he knew both my oldest brother and I really loved music, so we got Sgt. Pepper's, a couple of Ventures albums, Axis; Bold as Love from Hendrix...anyway, it's like hearing someone that you grew up with, hearing their voices, after you pretty much thought you'd never hear their voice singing something you've never heard them sing before ever again...and years go by, and then some care package shows up years later...so I don't think I listened to the new release of Now and Then with a good pair of earbuds in, so going to do that now...thanks again for the review...

Great, heartfelt reaction. I first saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 and have loved them ever since, but I must admit my expectations of this were pretty low. We've heard John's demo for years, and I thought it wasn't a very strong song. It certainly wasn't professionally recorded. I thought this had the earmarks of a cash grab, and feared it would be a cheesy codicil to the Beatles' legendary career. I'm so happy to have been wrong. Hearing Lennon's voice out front, and the other guys' instrumental and vocal contributions, made all the difference. All these years after John's tragic death, Now and Then should prove to any doubters that Lennon's genius was key to the band's stupendous success. PS -- I cried, too.

My journey with the Beatles started in 1963 when I got the single "I want to hold your hand" for a Christmas present. Now, 60 years later we get "Now and Then" I think this is definitely a John song circa mid 70's vibe and less a Beatles song. I think Paul did a decent job on slide, maybe they should have gotten Eric Clapton who was one of George's best friends who played lead on "While my guitar gently weeps" (The White album) to play the lead. I actually think George would have preferred that. Would really like to know your journey with the Beatles, my first time seeing your channel.

I think George called the song "F---ing rubbish" because he didn't like all the tape hiss, the sound quality of it...I mean, when they did Free As a Bird, Real Love, and Now and Then, they threw John's cassette recordings of those songs into ProTools (or some Digital Audio Workstation), created a click track, and stretched, and shrank the audio file so that the timing would be consistent...Free As a Bird and Real Love came off acceptable to George, but Now and Then did not...but during that time, they didn't have AI like they do now, so now they can completely eliminate unwanted noise, tape hiss, etc, even completely extract the vocal out of a cassette recording of a rough draft of the song, so you only have John's voice, then enhance his voice, tune it, etc, and then use a pro studio to build the music around it... and make his voice sound like it was recorded in a pro vocal booth with a great studio mic...at the same time, though, George, as well as all the Beatles, had songs from fellow band members, that he did not like...I'm pretty sure George didn't like Maxwell's Silver Hammer, and wasn't afraid to say so, hahaha!
@terminallumbago6465 Жыл бұрын
The music video just makes it even more poignant. To me it’s not about the song itself, but about what it represents, and the fact that we have it at all. It’s incredibly fitting that the Beatles, who were pretty much synonymous with technological innovation and experimentation, would release one last song using AI. The last time we’ll ever hear all four on the same song. Produced by the son of George Martin, who was so key to the band’s success. Packaged together with Love Me Do, the song that made them famous all those years ago. Paul and John harmonizing on “Now and then I miss you”, echoing some of John’s last words to Paul. Paul’s slide guitar solo in George’s style as a tribute to him. It’s just a four-minute emotional gut punch. This almost feels like a way to make peace with the past and end the Beatles career on a united front, unlike the acrimony of the band’s breakup. And I’m sure John would have loved every second of it.

Buongiorno. Grazie.
