How would you go about selecting the branches to tie down? Do you look for certain characteristics that make a branch right for tieing down? I would think that if a branch is growing pretty straight (90 degrees) or close to that, that you would leave that branch alone, but only select branches that are growing more vertical.

This forces the branches to fruit rather than become scaffolding branches. You would select the best 5-10 branches to tie down, hopefully this is done in the first year.

With changing higher temperatures, etc, is this the right way to go? It's a good system, but I think the time for this has passed. Did u irrigate under the trees?

Since the idea is to have the tree think it is dying, therefore it will strain to produce a maximum crop, what exactly is the longevity of these trees? How fast do you need to replace them? Is it like a chicken farm where you keep lights on so they will produce day and night? Then you just throw them to the garbage and replace. have seen thes orchards they do look like death - an eyesore in the landscape. but someone will squeeze a couple of pennies more...wow
