Regarding the question of capitalist societies in the Federation: Yes, there is at least one. The First Bank of Bolius seems to be very well known and enjoys a lot of trust maybe even because it belongs to a Federation member. Even Morn used its services. It seems that potential membership in the Federation actually concerns the level of equality or equal opportunities in a society. So a mild version of capitalism may be accepted. And I don't think that a planet's elite could hide the existence of replicator technology since (I am under the impression) that the populace of every member has access to non restricted non Military tech and can travel freely to experience the lifestyle of other societies. The LD episode even hints that the Federation might have brought replicators maybe industrial replicators that produce small replicators for every household. The woman who lends Mariner the hoverbike is already used to replicate everything she wants. I guess the details are an internal matter as long as the basic rights of the new Feederation citizen are not violated. By the way giving away all the jewellery to Tendi's family demonstrates a kind of currency in a post scarcity society: connections and trust.

Raptor: Interesting points, however I styill think providing one house in the orion society wealth beyond others, espexially so soon after the conflict, is if not a complete breach of the prime directive, is very morally questionable. It would be different of teh Federation gave that wealth to the orion society as a whole. As for the repicators, im not so sure i agree with you. Looking at our society do you really think the Replicator would be freely avaliable to all or hoarded by the ultra wealthy?

@@OneTrekMind In our society the elite would hide the tech and that's why I think the use of 3D printers is probably stalled because I#ve heard about so many possibilities of use in the past and now nothing, except for some guy who prints Star Trek figures (hehehe). But in the world of Star Trek I guess there is the right of equal life styles and opportunities. And the deal with Tendi's Family is sketchy but as you said before this a comedy show and LD also represents a less idyllic view of Star Fleet . I would say morally the show stands between TNG and Voyager. DS9's story lines are basically Sisko's own interpretation of every regulation you can think of. It's crazy what he got away with.

@@Meretneith Oh for sure, i agree thats is slightly difficult to apply the 'serious' star trek stuff to LD. Its one of the reasons i struggle with LD as a whole. I think its good, but next to serious trek, i dunno how i would rank it if, for example, i was ranking the shows

@@OneTrekMind I also struggled with the first season. Mariner was obnoxious and since I knew from the beginning that she's the captain's daughter I thought she was a spoiled brat and a nepo baby which doesn't quite fit in ST (I hate Jack Crusher by the way). The stories were just soso and an excuse for easter eggs. But they toned Mariner down, the stories improved and the show found its own voice. Now I enjoy it and I will miss the characters when this season will be over. But what really got me was that LD managed to think further some things that were established in serious Trek like how do you attract people to serve in Star Fleet when they have basically everything they need and can choose every career path they want? What happens when people like Picard leave a situation and fly away? Who has to do deal with the mess?

@@Meretneith For sure the whole concept of the '2nd contact' mission is a great idea. Would have made a great live action / serious show...but instead we got Disco and Picard...
