Bread and Puppet Theater at ICAF 2014

It was a great honour to welcome Bread & Puppet at the sixth edition of our festival. Bread & Puppet is a performance group that has been inspiring community artists worldwide since 1963 with intimate indoor and spectacular outdoor shows that mix image, music and movement. This arts collective has worked with local communities in the US and many other places around the world to make thousands of masks and puppets and to involve them in performances. These art objects come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from small marionettes and hand-and-stick puppets, to giant ten-foot puppets. These oversize figures would later become Bread & Puppet’s trademark, together with the home-baked sour dough bread handed out to the audience because Bread & Puppet consider art as a basic human need. At ICAF 6 Bread & Puppet performed Exultation Manufacture with Crucifixion of Oppositionist, a mesmerizing, symbolic production with giant puppets and stunning live music about the fragile relation between man and nature with, of course, freshly baked bread made by Peter Schumann in our own specially built ICAF oven.
