♫ Everything I Own by BREAD
Lyrics:
You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you
And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
You taught me how to love
What it's of, what it's of
You never said too much
But still you showed the way
And I knew from watching you
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go
And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Is there someone you know
You're loving them so
But taking them all for granted
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And they don't hear the words you long to say
I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to touch you once again

I lost my Daddy about a year ago and I’m bawling my eyes out listening to this song. It was the first song that came to mind right after he died. He was 88 and I’m 62 - the youngest of three daughters. He and my mom were together for almost 70 years. He was the best Daddy a child could ever want and a wonderful and loving husband to my mom. He was a fine Christian man and a very loving, caring and funny man. I was a Daddy’s girl even up until the day he passed and I cherish those precious times we had together. Well, Pops, I’ll see you on the other side some sweet day. I love you and miss you. ❤️

Oh Shelly, you've got me bawling now too. I lost my beloved Daddy in front of me December 2021, 9 months after my mom passed. He was a few months shy of 88. My parents were married almost 65 years, together for almost 70 years. I'm the youngest of 3 girls but also have a younger and an older brother. I was always Daddy's little girl. I miss him so incredibly much that hearing this song on another channel started me crying. I hope your heart is mending a little.

This song reminds me of what I'd do if I could have my husband back anything. To have him, my parents, my sister, my brothers. You'd do what you had to just for a min but a min isn't enough time. There'd never be enough time! All my love "___"!

I’m 62 & I remember hearing this when riding with my sister (she was 18 when I was born) I loved their music so much & would sit in her car & listen to her Bread tape over & over..When she realized how much I loved their music, she gave me the 8 track tape.. She passed in 2013 & I miss her so much. She was my Sister/Momma after our parents passed when I was 16. She was like a grandma to my 2 boys.. 1 of my sons is named for her .. I called her Jo.. my sons name is Joey.. I miss & love you my little/big sister/momma..

Every song Bread ever did was my youth. As a silly young girl, I always thought it was about a lost love. In a way, it is. I’m 62 now, and think about it differently. I have lost my brother and sister, my mommy, my father (who cares), all my aunts and uncles, grandparents, my only nephew, and so on, and so on. I was the youngest of my family, and really only have 1 cousin left, who is 76. As a 62 year old, it has other meanings. Of course, it could always be about the one who broke your heart, but at this stage, it’s all about family and home. People live their lives every day taking for granted what they have. You have it all, but it can be taken from you in an instant. It happened to me and probably many of you. My prayers and sympathies to all who have lost even one loved one. RIP mommy, and my whole family. Until we meet up again someday. Hopefully 🤞, not to soon 😳😵‍💫🥶😱💀😁. Hey I do have 4 grandkids. I hope I’m around to see them grow up. They are my heart ❤️! KZbin friends, we shall all meet up in Heaven. Until then, may God Bless each and every one of you 🙏❤️🙏❤️!

I am pushing 40 and lost my dad a few years ago. I was never able to show him my path in life would lead to success. Then all but one of his siblings died, including my uncle who was the only guy in my family that supported my choices. I was never able to repay his kindness either. I remain at a dead end job as my widowed mother continues to cloister herself. My sibs are prepping to move away and marry their partners. I recently got quite sick and have progressive and permanent physical and mental decline. I just ended a 6 yr relationship after ending a 5 year relationship after a turbulent 1 year relationship. My best friend in life, who was the only one who understood me at my core and was my 2nd ex, told me to f off when i contacted her after years apart. My dog just lost an eye and has a huge tumor. I am in debt for more than im worth. My sports club, where i hoped to master and teach our indigenous sport, has all but cast me out, not believing i have developed a crippling disability. I dont know why im still around listening to melancholy songs and reading comments that make me feel worse.

We must forgive our parents- it's not good for them or you to hold anything against anybody- I know it's much easier said than done, but it's easily done by what is said & felt in the heart, whatever their disfunction may have been, they were only frail, faulted human beings like all of us - abusers were often abused themselves - not an excuse or pass for them, but a dose of understanding, & even if you don't understand, you can just enough to forgive & then you can let it go- * until we can fully embrace,Love & forgive every aspect of ourselves, especially the aspects we like the least, we are unable to forgive others- to not forgive is a heavy chain around your own neck- that's all - peace be with you😊

Losing your parents is one of the hardest things to survive. The ones you love that were always there for you are suddenly gone, and you're that orphan that you were always afraid of being. It's life. It's sad and yet, it wonderful that you had them in your life. Thanks, mom and dad. I will forever be greatful. 🤍

I heard this on the radio the very week my brother passed away a few yrs back. I was organising his funeral by myself and when i heard this song that particular week in the car, i just happened to listen to the words whilst driving and it reduced me to tears. The DJ then mentioned when the song had finished that it was written by David Gates for his Dads funeral. I changed one of the songs already chosen for my brothers funeral there and then knowing this was the right song to have. Can not listen to this song now without being all emotional. Beautiful, beautiful song.

This song shatters me…. I miss my precious husband so much. He died last Christmas of cancer. He was my perfect partner for over 20 years, I will never be the same. I keep thinking this will get easier but so far not so much. Please tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, before it’s too late. I was lucky enough to be holding my sweethearts hand when he passed. But my heart cries every day without him. I took my beautiful sweetheart for granted, then he was gone

"Death must be so beautiful. to lie in the soft brown earth with the grass waving above one's head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forget life, to be at peace for love is always with you and love is stronger than death..." That is not the correct quotation but I hope these words comfort you as they do me.

How well I understand your anguish . My beloved husband passed away last summer, and like you and your husband, mine passed as we held hands. I thank God everyday for 35 wonderful years with him. I cry ever day and cry myself to sleep every night. So far, it has not gotten easier for me either, but hope that someday it will. I will keep you in my prayers! God bless you. 🙏🙏❤️ .

You sheltered me from harm Kept me warm, kept me warm You gave my life to me Set me free, set me free The finest years I ever knew Were all the years I had with you And I would give anything I own I'd give up my life, my heart, my home I would give everything I own Just to have you back again You taught me how to love What it's of, what it's of You never said too much But still you showed the way And I knew from watching you Nobody else could ever know The part of me that can't let go And I would give anything I own I'd give up my life, my heart, my home I would give everything I own Just to have you back again Is there someone you know Your loving them so But taking them all for granted? You may lose them one day Someone takes them away And they don't hear the words you long to say I would give anything I own I'd give up my life, my heart, my home I would give everything I own Just to have you back again Just to touch you once again

Listening to this for my best little boy El Jefe, my only baby who died eight weeks ago. They have been the loneliest and hardest weeks of my life. We only had him for a short five years, but he brought so much light and joy and love to every day. He was there for everything, no matter what mood I was in or how much I was struggling, to listen without judgement, care without limits, and just hold space with me in this dark world. He was my best friend and the most perfect companion. I'd give anything to have his pure spirit, energy, and beauty back in our lives.
