I've found doing one thing at a time definitely helps. I am almost 4 years sober. My mind was in chaos. First, I concentrated on staying off the booze. Then I needed to start working and I decided I needed to better serve others. So, I went back to school at 48 years old and got my AS for medical assisting. It was perfect, because it was 1 course at a time. So, I know you want life to be normal right now, an end to the pain. You can only move forward, one step at a time. Patience! Do not try to do a complete change all at once. That is the path of someone who isn't ready to really let go and move forward.

I have a friend that always talks of "monkey bar syndrome" - in a playground kids will play on the bars, they swing from one to another; but to get to the next one you have to let go of the one you're holding on to and for a split second, you're in mid air..
@grahamzvi32936 ай бұрын
That's beautiful, so we could say if we don't let go, we are swinging a perpetual pattern of ' If only we went, can and did, we would, could and should, leaving us in a monotonous, pattern of doubt ?

What he said brings this wording of it to mind..... We're in the present, the now. We should only spend time in the future to plan. The past should be looked at like "Professor Past" who teaches us, & shows us what we did good or bad on our replay monitor to help us "plan" for the future.

Oh Rabbi thank you once again. I’m crying. I’m 56 with 2 grown beautiful sons. I’m still controlled by my past. I do not know how to get beyond the pain of the lifelong rejection, gaslighting and scapegoating from my father. It still rules me, prevents sleep, it is the issue of my life. Now that I’m completely alone and working so hard to rebuild financially and spiritually, it is the obstacle. I’m still so sad. Do I chase him and keep trying like a discarded puppy, to simply be true to myself? A good person and a thoughtful daughter, though he ignores me. Or do I in kind ignore him and try to bust through all of this somehow? I’ve worked on this all my life, and still. I do not want to continue with this for my kids, for my hope of being a stronger happier person. I am stuck with this great dilemma. Love and gratitude… Michelle Hannah

Rabbi, my grandmother told me one time and I will never forget because a relative had told me something about my grandfather who I knew only through my grandmother. She had to go through his early passing, but loved him and dreamed of him often to 96 years of age. My grandmother was beautiful within as well as without and well respected and loved. She said, "I only remember the good things, and I never heard her speak ill of anyone. That had a great impression on me and I hope it shows because sometimes I have to say hard things. I hope it is sufficiently observed. My heart is always to comfort. I don't like to confront, but I will do it if necessary.

Thank you Mr. Jacobson. Your words of wisdom is helping me choose a better path without looking back so often. I'm only 21 and want to make better decisions for myself with the help and love of my newfound friends and old friends. I can't help but think that I'm also being selfish for leaving my family, and that hurts me still. Even when I was told by parents that I could end up in prison or dead if I left, and that I shouldn't trust anyone because they'll eventually turn their backs on me. I don't believe in that though, I chose my good friends and I trust in them to help me in my next part in life; I still love my parents and family but I know I have to take this step and finally be a better person and change my life to befit something my parents always wanted me to have. And so I leave with this, thank you for your wise words of wisdom and blessings to take this new path in life and to follow how to strive for a better day.
