I actually lived this lifestyle when I was a teenager in the 80's. I danced like that, dressed like that and had talent like that. Most importantly, it taught me the importance of creativity, art, passion, self expression and discipline. Now, I am a grown man. I do not dance quite the same, however, the essence is still there and the celebration of life, follow through and authentic self expression continues. I will always have Street Dance in my heart! Thank you Break Machine!

In 1984 I was 20 years old in the city of my birth LA. I was totally lost. Sort of homeless at times, in and out of the county jail for traffic warrants and minor offenses, in a world wind relationship with my first girlfriend whose family hated me, unable to find employment and oh yeah, listening to this song in the background. I’m so fortunate to have made it, not just through that year, but through a life that was full of roadblocks and beat downs. I came through it without ever being shot or stabbed, without going to the penitentiary, without becoming addicted to drugs or alcohol. I’ll be 60 next year and I’m so glad I made it through

I was 'bout 17 in 1984, when I bought that single. Haven't heard it for MANY years now. Brings back old memories, when I was (totally fit) a gymnastis with the best requirements for Breakdancing. Not many B-Boys could do flic-flac, salto and so on in the early days. To learn the "windmill" I took a VHS (there was nothing else) of BEAT STREET and watched it frame by frame in my room in the basement and after months (yes, it took months, sorry...) of trying (not all the time, but between gymnastic training and after school, there IS not always time to practise alone) and many little injuries (hurt my kneecap one time - ouch), I finally did it. And from this moment I always asked why it took so long to learn it? Later I took many moves from BEAT STREET (Lee's moves were great and I learned them) and of course, MANY moves from the battle at the Roxy. Later I met a guy here in germany (later he became runner-up in breakdancing here in the middle 80's. Haven't seen him for a long time, too, cause he moved, but a few weeks ago we met in a shopping mall, he was visiting his family. Was nice to talk to him again. Well, I'm sure I still could do many moves (sometimes I try SLOWLY), but now both of my shoulder outer ligament are damaged (from work I did the last 12 years) and the knees - don't talk about it. But it was good times these days in the 80's-90's...
