@@marlieeasley830 yes because there is very little content to what he says, he talks slowly and takes long pauses. The overactive mind will react to this in two ways. Either, and much more common, it will become restless or it will yield and become grounded in the present moment, which is basically the only true purpose of Eckharts teachings. The mind craves constant stimulation and that is what makes you feel impatient. That is a perfectly normal reaction and is why formal meditation can seem so difficult. It’s not easy and it takes practice.

Being in lockdown, I struggled with the desire for online shopping. But I realized that this is the time to go within, reach for all the abundance that lies within me. And I found a wellspring of creativity, enabling me to write new stories. I learned that when faced with the desire for outside enticements, turn your awareness inwards. I too have an active mind....busy seems to be it's default setting. Not sure if this will help others like it did me, but I learned this from Ram Dass. When I got my new puppy I set my alarm to go off every hour to take her out for a pee. I do the same thing using Ram Dass' mantra "I am loving awareness"...I stop my day, say every half hour, and just say that mantra about 5 times while observing life around me. The more you do it, the more it becomes habit and the less time your mind is able to get started and wound up. It worked for me and I hope it works for you other busy minded beings. Enjoy your day!

with regards to what Eckhart was saying about awareness of a desire diminshing over time, I find that awareness alone isn't enough, that I need to have compassion, or self compassion for that part of me with the unmet need. Awareness alone, over time leads me to feeling very abandoned. Self-companioning is the anti-dote. Also, i don't know if she uses the same language, but, Russell, you should have Sarah Peyton on your program-- she's a neuroscience educator and teaches how to heal our brains by greeting our bodies with resonance (which is her word for what i call self-compassion).

I was in your shoes 3 years ago. creation bears witness to the creator that's why we are fascinated with it. but people have exchanged the truth for a lie, and worship/serve the creation rather than the creator. you have to be honest with yourself, if there is a creator why are we willing to listen to so many teachers who claimed to have truth - but not the person who said He was the truth, the way and the life. it's because people don't want to come into the light because they are in darkness and don't want their evil deeds to be exposed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4Wxl5aFjc2Ioac

Agree, it’s about NOT wanting, and that requires a rational, something better. By abstaining you take a small bight into the alternative (peace) without which you are merely wanting something else. A little bit of peace this time gives you an appetite for more next time! Eventually realise that the peace gained from a knawing want is better than the thing you wanted! It satisfies the want without yielding to it. Then you have over come it!

Unfortunately we live in a world where if you just try to be quiet and live your life easily you will get run over, for instance by those in Washington DC on the leftwing for us here in the states and it's not peaceful to deal with, we constantly have to watch our backs and watch what's going on. Wow man, in the first 4 or 5 minutes listening understanding contemplating on what was being said I literally felt HIGH or mind altered. Day to day I put myself in an automatic mode and miss out on the things I should be paying attention to and noticing in myself and the world around. Thank you my brothers

there's a problem with your reasoning..."there is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death". what if you were on the wrong road in life, and you were just focused on paying more attention - in the end you would end up in the wrong destination. feeling high or being in an altered state is temporary, you won't find lasting peace/joy/love. that cosmic loneliness/emptiness most feel doesn't go away by chasing after things in the world. you were designed in the image of God, and were created to have an intimate relationship with your creator. but the problem is that we don't want to come into the light because we are in the darkness and don't want to have our evil deeds exposed... that is why Jesus said you must be born again where God supernaturally changes you and gives you a new heart/desires to live a holy life and your sins can be forgiven and you can make things right with God and have lasting peace/joy/love and the promise of eternal life in Christ Jesus. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4vHp2CKqc6Aock

I too could not still the mind from its want to keep learning and knowing let alone the body that wanted to keep travelling deep into nature so my first experience with meditation following my inner guide was to make myself sit in a chair stay still for one hour and empty the mind of all thought, silence it…well the struggle that ensued…lots of sound effects going on lol but in a short period of time I began to be able to do it and then I began meditation music and I felt myself begin to become one with nature and that first year long time back now was one of the best years of my life within myself and my awareness changed and my positivity heightened and as much as I would have loved to stay there life beckons for us to continue on our paths and do what we do and be where we are…we are always doing and being where we are suppose to be for there we are learning and that to me is what life is all about….

I was in your shoes 3 years ago...you are missing a huge part of yourself - spirit. you are created in the image of God(body, soul, spirit). the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit(spirit of God) and we were created to have an intimate relationship with our creator. but most people don't want to hear it because they are in darkness and don't want to come into the light. the cosmic emptiness/loneliness most people feel is that spiritual void. you have to be honest with yourself, why is it that most people will listen to every person on how to improve their body and mind, but will not listen to the person who said who said He was the truth, the way, the life and God in the flesh? kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4vHp2CKqc6Aock

What he says makes sense. That is what I did and do, well not always, but I try to..It enabled me to also choose healthier options to fill that desire. Like buying organic soda instead of alcohol. Or playing video games instead and having a positive outlet for stress and pain and anger instead of drinking alcohol. That was important for me as I was, am an addict and became one as a young child. That action spilled over into other areas as well.

Don’t forget, your “quick mind” is an enormous gift too! It gives you your wit and humor! It gives you the ability to do these great interviews! It makes you verbally agile, like an olympian of words. Ekhart gives good advice, just be mindful, observant and aware of it. If it gets too much, take a time out, take a breath, take a walk. Let of judgment and just ask if you are doing what you intend…

So you were designed to have an intimate relationship with your creator by being born again, and most people are trying to replace that by chasing after things in the world. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4vHp2CKqc6Aock

Meditation can come in many forms: artwork, sailing, gardening, etc all provide moments of a void where you are "lost and found" at the same time. If you have no hobby, it's kind of like when you get a good stare going and are suspended in time!!!

I was in your shoes 3 years ago. here is the problem with your reasoning. yes you can choose to look at life as sacred and there is nothing wrong with that. but perhaps that was just one side of the coin, what if there was more to it than that - what if there was "greater truth"? there is a way which can seem right to a man, but its end is the way of death. meditation/mindfulness is not going to remove that cosmic loneliness/emptiness that most people feel. you were created in the image of God(body, soul, spirit) and were designed to have an intimate relationship with your creator by being born again. but most people don't want to hear this because they are in darkness and don't want to come into the light because their evil deeds will be exposed. life and the world around us is the creation, if you want greater truth you have to ask the obvious question of is there a creator. but men have exchanged the truth for a lie, and worshipped/served the creation rather than the creator. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4vHp2CKqc6Aock

What do I think? Of you Russell? And Eckhart? Not that it even matters what my opinion is, but I honestly think you're wonderful. Both of you. For different reasons. But while love for Tolle is often universal I know you have often been a more controversial figure. So, from my perspective, simply, I think you're a wonderful soul. Wise, honest, authentic, congruent. And I know you've worked damn hard to get to the place you find yourself in now, from which to share insights many of us feel and know, but struggle to articulate. So thank you for what you do and share. It brings me a lot of comfort and fires my own convictions, especially during these last months and year. Keep doing what you're doing. It means more to many of us than you probably realise.

I was in your shoes 3 years ago. sounds like you are seeking for "greater truth" like I was...most people are trying to fill that cosmic loneliness/emptiness that most feel. you were created in the image of God(body, soul, spirit) and were designed to have an intimate relationship with your creator by being "born again" where God supernaturally changes you and gives you a new heart/desires to live a holy life. the relationship that was severed due to sin is restored, and the spiritual void is filled and you can have lasting peace/joy/love in your life. most people don't want to hear this because they are in darkness and don't want to come into the light and have their evil deeds exposed. you have to be honest with yourself, why will we listen to so many people who claim to have the truth but not the person who said He was the truth, the way and the life. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4vHp2CKqc6Aock
