I feel like the reason why they did war 118 instead of a long resistance phase is because they fear that new players will not play the game if they join a resistance phase. The new player will not like that and will stop playing the game. However, if they play a war, then they are more likely to stay. The new players will play the game as if it was a normal war and, with their time played, get to learn and stick around longer for war 119.

Yep, for new players wars like 118 are much much better than resistance phase, even if it will be a short war. We recruited several players during war 118 and were having a blast knowing that we don't have to think long-term. I wish war 118 and the prepatch war were combined, but what we got is much better than a long resistance phase.

Yep basically colonials had no tech at all 80% of fights were using mammon's to fight back light tanks while we had none of our own, and when we finally did get some they had AT guns plus all the other crap not great war for noobs and the colonials team had a lot of them.

I had fun with W118. Near the end of it we had a ragtag group of mostly new players running field artillery from origin to the next hex. We started with 4 but eventuallt grew to 15 players and multiple 120mm guns and many pallets of ammo. It was honstly one of the best moments I’ve had in the game so far.

I’m a warden logi player who only talks in game through bird sounds named “pigeon” I was abducted by collie partisans as a “pet” after they saw my name. I was held hostage for 1 hour as they debated on what to call me while also shutting down a bridge. That is until a new player shot me in the head ending it and I had a platoon of collies screaming and crying over their now dead “pigeon” 10/10 experience😂

The stream was I think an hour after the war started. Our Regi had the most members ever present at the beginning of the war and we hustled the first hour to get a quick start. We continued to gather, craft and build while the stream was going. As soon as they showed the slide revealing this war would be 13 days max all of the momentum quickly dwindled.

I do hope that they one day give the servers the 'Anvil Empires' treatment and allow for more seamless gameplay between the hexes. I think this would allow for more players, bigger battles and create more interesting scenarios and missions. Bases would have to be tighter, partisans could be bolder, trekking around as a logi driver would be a little quicker, navy battles could be more epic. I dunno, I might just be day dreaming.

Sadly they can't because of the engine. Anvil empires has a upgraded engine which lets them do like that. Foxhole doesn't really have the new engine. And from what I understand in coding is that you barely can upgrade a engine when the game is already done and released unless you do a bunch of refactoring and whatnot.

War 118 was my introduction to the game. I have had a lot of fun so far experiencing a wide range of playstyles including infantry and frontline logi, and once I joined a mechanized/armoured regiment I was able to feel productive as I produced armour and supplies for them, and then see those same supplies in active combat secure territory. Excited for 119!

The break war was so good, we got almost 20 new clan members in the last war and so many were low level players, we actually used the whole war to show all the basics, facility, preparation and fighting and have Handing over the leadership in operations to young teammates so that they can also learn, it was very good.

118 was technically my first war. I got to die 3 times on the frontline, not knowing a singular thing at the time. The pre patch war has been a lot more entertaining. I’ve spent a lot of my time working around Loch Mor, and was part of several naval invasions using barges. Quite a good time! I’m excited for 119 like everyone else is :)

The multiple servers are apparently to have a difference between new and veteran players. I find it ridiculous since that's how foxholes experience should be, a mixed big of players of different calibers facing against each other. Or, helping eachother.

Yep! The devs mainly do it to help with server overload during major updates but the Foxhole culture has made it sound like Able is for tryhards and Charlie is for casuals. Which is not really the case. Like I said Charlie will be dead in 1-2 weeks and Able will live on!

Honestly I like seeing that most players from both factions agreed to make it a mutual break war. Seems like people still had a lot of fun but it’s wholesome seeing both halves of the player base decide to let things be chill. I know tryhards are the minority anyway but seeing the break war status being “official” as opposed to just a vibe guess to explain why one side is losing is neat.

The Able = Vet, Charlie = New thing isn't even looking to be true for 119, every large Regi we have had talks with is planning on going Charlie this war. It will lead to even more split and confusion, it's honestly such a weird dev choice for what looks like a pretty small update now that most of the building changes are gone.

Also, when airborne comes out next year can you make a video to tell people planes will not be available day 1, I feel a lot of new players are going to come in expecting planes available right away like any other game when really it may be 7-10 days before they are teched.

Actually, they are trying that in a new game called Anvil. There are no hexes and transitions between server to server is almost seamless. But they are still testing it.

I haven’t done serious logi since facilities and the overhaul were added, and for a while I didn’t have the time to relearn it all but this last war I just got familiar with how the new production chains work and what I need to do to get vehicles and stuff going for next war, so that was nice at least

5:21 out of all the reasons for not wanting to play, low player counts is something I never would have considered. The reason I don't get the game (despite loving the concept) is the complexity and the fact that I couldn't devote more than a few hours per week to playing. Possible! I think overall infantry is going to be a lot stronger and better to play. Even just testing it out on the Pre-Patch war I've had a lot better experience with it.

First war coming back with some friends, it felt fresh and especially when we had to setup the defense of fisherman's from day 1 until its fall (we never had to deal with that grand of a logi plan throughout our play of foxhole as a small squad) Overall, I had fun in this war because it was mostly just randos with no reputation just playing, coordinating and talking to each other as they come back to the game/or brand new, without the awryness of logi/resource hoarding from many of the clans.

They really need to turn resistance phase or transition wars into fun events. Even if it’s as simple as infinite tanks and ammo on a small skirmish map.

I will say, partisan on Charlie is a lot more balanced because there is less bunker spam, and there are more opportunities to hunt logi and kill light vehicles, like me and my small clan likes to do. I do think it causes divide, but there are some elements of Charlie that could be beneficial to the game.

I will say as someone who plays on 2ndary servers because I enjoy them more it is still annoying when the main server has a lot of people quit their war for the 2ndary server. Perhaps we should have server lock during wars. I can vouch for entire clans showing up on 2ndary when they give up on main often making a huge difference.

Agreed. I really hate when other clans move over to the secondary shard. And yes server locked would be amazing! Or at least once you start on Able you can't switch to secondary one. But other secondary ones can switch to Able.

Me and my friend had bought the game to try for an hour two days ago, he said there was a little bit of people playing but we had a decent amount of fun after figuring out where the frontline was. I just seen this vid and watched while talking to him. safe to say we will be trying it again but i cant justify $30 for it. any other games with long ass wars i should know about? does foxhole go on sale a lot?

They do it for an increased amount of players but I do agree with you we need a middle ground Maybe the bravo server can be a "learning chard" instead of bravo with a smaller map like 10 hexes just for learning on a small war scale

Yea I understand that. But those increased amount of players only last about a week or two. Speaking from experience, I've played during a lot major updates. Baker and Charlie are normally dead after a week or two. And great idea! I just said this similar idea in another comment. I would love for the secondary servers to be smaller maps and more of a training ground.

It's essentially a live update. The devs are using the current prepatch war to test the server load and ensure that the new features and mechanics like weight and encumbrance don't break the game.

Yes right now is what they are calling a "Pre-Patch" war. So it has changes for the update. They should have done this from the start. Real war starts the 18th.

War 82 did not end early, war 82 was one of the fastest wars because 82DK mobilised the entire warden faction to win it in record time before the server got shut down or ended early. It WAS going to be ended early but due to the significance of the number to us it was in fact won before the update.

I can only say what worked for me, but heres my take: For new player guidance, theres a variety of beginner guides on youtube that will get you started. Basic logistics and/or infantry guides should probably be where you start. After that trial and error in game or more guide searching. Also the game wiki for explanations of mechanics and other fine details. TLDR; Watch basic logi/infantry youtube guides, then just jump in to start! As for clans/regiments, not my area of expertise, but I'd check the game's subreddit and steam community.

Honestly, if you just log in and type in global chat , "Hey I'm new, I want to try infantry/medic/building/logistics/etc, can anyone help me?" Someone will offer to help you out. There are veterans who dedicate their time to teaching new folks how to play the game and most players are happy to answer to answer a few questions.

When you join the game hop into global chat and ask that same question and someone will likely take you under their wing. If that doesn't work out, spawn in a big town in the backline of your faction's map and ask around for some guidance. (The back line is where most of the logistics stuff happens.) A lot of folks are happy to teach new players because we need folks like you to keep the game alive.
