Too bad hong 10 didn’t hit his moves in the third round. I think it would have been a clear win for him if he did. Lithe-ing spent the majority of his third round biting Hong 10’s moves. It’s one thing to say ONE move is easy by doing it then continuing on, but it’s like there’s no shame left in just hijacking someone’s whole flow. I hope the olympics doesn’t degrade the value of originality…but maybe it has already.

I don’t know what else he bite. Well despite in this battle it’s clearly his win. Edit: I think he also bited some blow ups from Niggas and some other OG french bboys.

I have question is originality a judging criteria ? If it’s not then hey it’s hair game .. just business
@bklyncrook7 ай бұрын
I would think Olympic scoring would be different than other BBoy battles as they have their own governing body to break down the criteria. Since Olympic is a sporting event, therefore, we have to look at these competitions in the frame of a sport than art. I would think that they might score similar to figure skating where there're the technical points and the components/performance points. Probably the same in the floor exercise of gymnastic. In figure skating, the skaters have to perform necessary moves for the judges to grade objectively like how one skater execute the triple axel, if not all skaters won't take the risk of trying to do a quadruple to score higher than those that only can do triple or double. Therefore, if there're no set standards for technical scoring in sports, then the skaters, gymnasts and Breakers will just move well with the music with no one attempting to do hard moves. Therefore, to answer your question and looking at examples of other sports that have artistic merits - I think originality might be part of the scoring system, but, to point again that it's a sporting event, then they have to see how well a human body can achieve in their absolute movements with their execution. I think recent skateboarding being part of the Olympics can also be another good example of how to score. Overall, a move is original when first done by someone until it becomes an established vocabulary of set discipline. I won't go into deep on how Breakin' takes a lot of moves from other discipline too. But, we have to look at this from a lens that we have to judge and score this as a sport than a dance competition.

According to what I heard, the chinese government affected a lot on deciding the criteria of scoring system in the breaking as sports such as these games and games in olympic. And they knew their ATHLETES have no originality. So they insisted on removing the originality section from the score board. And also they make it come true that sending a bite sign on the stage is a violation of a rule or something like what causes negative scores.

Where are you getting your information from? The judging system used for breaking in the Olympics has been public knowledge for 2 years now and is comprised of 3 categories: physicality, originality, and musicality. I'm not giving an opinion on the judging for this battle, but the result could've been Hong 10 took originality, and Lithe-ing took physicality and musicality. The people who created the judging system (Storm and Renegade) have emphasized before that while originality is important, it is only 1 aspect of breaking, especially competitive breaking. There are other factors, like physicality and musicality, that are all equally weighted.
@Sneak-er6 ай бұрын
@@markstanton1402 I've heard that it had been changed a lot since it was initially discussed. The systems of the competitions including judges' guidelines varied over time and confused everyone who did have contact with the internal people. Even shortly before this competition in the video the judging method was discussed. For example, you could see that originality was considered in the early competitions for Olympics but now it isn't and due to that reasons especially Chinese players are very strong as you could find in the corresponding competition. As far as remember, I got this info from bboy Snipa at bboy's zealot's channel who used to be a member of TIP crew and as of 5 months ago one of the judges for Olypics. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJe4m32unLJ6itk) You can see in the video, (probably he thought it was controversial or draw too much attention) he cut the part and put the label "copy part excluded". But it was available when the video was initially uploaded.

Hong10s mistakes in the 3rd round cost him. In terms of the 3rd round, I saw: Lithe-ing:: a nice transition, one clean combo, some fluff, a questionable bite?/incomplete move response (he just did his opponent’s move but didn’t make it better… so it was pointless lol) and a flashy blowup executed super well, so it was an exciting ending vs Hong 10:: original style and approach. pulled out 3 original concepts, but made 2 slips + last concept he cut it short. If executed as clean as usual, Hong 10 would have no question taken the last round. His round was way more complete in terms of the craft of the dance.. but execution matters. It’s a fact of life and a fact of the battle. Props to everyone digging deep mentally physically and spiritually in this art ✌🏾
