Aloha Scuba Chris! Casting distance is extremely important, especially for anglers who are limited to fishing from shore. When casting lighter lures in the range of 3/4 - 1 oz, would a breakaway canon still be worth the investment? Also, I know that a full spool, thinner diameter line and a longer rod improves casting distance however, what type of rod action is best for casting lures as far as possible? I’ve heard some say that a fast action is better since it generates greater rod tip speed but I’ve also heard that a slow action is better since you can load up (bend) the rod more. Another factor that I’m curious about are the guides. Do larger diameter guides allow you to cast further? What about the distance from the reel to the largest guide? Is a longer distance better? Which of these combinations will help someone to maximize their casting distance? Hope you can help answer my questions given all the years of your experience. For me casting lighter lures i like 8'6" to 9'6". Fast. Long rear grip. I use fluorocarbon or braid main line.

@@ScubaChris Well right now it is my third time fishing, I am VERY new to the hobby. But I plan to have two setups, one for bass fishing (and similar size fish) with plastic worms and lures, and another for using live bait (worms). So far all I have done is live bait but I purchased a new rod and reel for my bass setup.
