Carpark Breakdown. Almost caught fire!
In today's episode I troubleshoot the JDM Mitsubishi Evo 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition. I test electrical circuits and components with the help of a Service Manual, multimeter and jumper wires. The car broke down, I suspect fuel circuits, components or fuel pump to be the cause but it could also be the immobiliser. If you like my Japanese Classic Lancer Evo VI then let me know. and if you would like to support my channel send me something for me to talk about or use in my workshop. My postal address is in the video credits at the end of the video. Cheers! :)

I know sometimes my videos are very basic but hopefully they will help some people. I also like to document what I do to the car with video while trying to be creative. Most of the time I do everything here myself which is a big job and its hard to remember everything, But I shoot most of this stuff with my old iPhone and sometimes my old GoPro. The "Pieces to Camera" I film with my Canon 5D so I don't use a proper video camera at all. Although I would love to get a SONY FX3 some day and a Gimbal too which will open up a lot of creative shots in future videos.

4:33 You can get an openport 1.3 cable and EvoScan software instead of a MUT tool, hook it up to the ECU and you can perform diagnostics such as firing up injectors, fuel pump relay, cooling fan and others too. I have a Lancer CS6A and its an indispensible tool for me.

Great suggestion Thank you. I do have a 1.3 cable somewhere that I used many years ago. I’ll have to find it download EvoScan again. Cheers.

Very tidy car and nice video. The old radiator overflow bottle looks out of place and the new ones aren't expensive might make for a nice addition sometime :)

Thanks Ryan. I do have a new radiator overflow bottle and boxes full of other brand new parts. But when you replace an old part with a new one, the new part stands out in the engine bay. This car is my original non-restored car and my other red car is the "fully restored" OEM car. The old bottle might be ok with just a good clean up. cheers

Didn't know they had an immobilizer!

it was an aftermarket alarm/ immobiliser. But I'm not sure if they have an oem immobiliser too as part of the central locking. I've still got a lot to learn about the electrical side of evos.

@@UzumakiGarage they don't appear to have an OEM one like the Evo 9 does. Not in the same sense anyway. 9 one works off the RFID chip in the key which the earlies dont have. I'm chasing a no fuel no start issues right now and stumbled upon this video which has great info so thanks for the upload

@@RenntatoRacing thanks for that info mate, makes sense. Have you looked through the evo 7 service manual to get a plan to diagnose your issue. The evo 7 manual is the most comprehensive CT9A / CT9w resource. I bet it has a step by step fuel issue finding sequence. I think the evo 9 service manual has an electrics supplement too

Nice Video. Can u tell me where the immobiliser unit sits?
@UzumakiGarage

Thanks Niko. It was an aftermarket alarm immobiliser that was zip tied under the steering column. Not a great position but at least it didn't fully start a fire!

Since your vehicle is a collectors item what is your opinion on changing or upgrading original OEM equipment? Only asking because I am in the same realm

Hello! May I ask does the stock Evo 6.5 TME has its own immobiliser already? Because I'm trying to use a 6.5 TME ECU to another vehicle and it wont give injector pulse.

Apparently some Evo VI don't have an immobilizer and some do. I would imagine most do (maybe the RS versions don't???) But I'm not the expert on this stuff so I can't advise sorry.

What modern security system did you go with??

Hi mate. Probably not a good idea for me to go into detail about my car's security as I don't know who might read this and I don't want to give away any clues. Besides I'm not the expert on alarms so I shouldn't give advice about them sorry.
