I’m an oversize load escort and I’ve been using this radio for 2 years. As long as you have a good antenna it works great.

Way back in my day (cause I have one,) I remember moving my 87 yr old grandmother from Massachusetts to Arizona via a Uhaul and a Buick so we bought a couple handheld CB walkies. I don’t know what we would have done without them. The truckers were amazing, helping us locate everything from safe and clean motels to great eat spots on the road!! I’ll never forget “The Winemaker” who kept us entertained for hours and we’d get so excited when we’d catch up to him a day or two later and start up another conversation!! Who needed Google Maps? We had all the help we needed during that very long 8 day road trip. My opinion, no matter what, a CB radio is a must for any road trip!!! For a good time…….#BREAKER19 Good luck everyone 😊

You better be running a few thousand watts if you want to be heard on Channel 6. That's known as the "Super Bowl" and they have no love for Mud Ducks on the Bowl! Some of those guys are in the kilowatt range with the power they run!
@eyeinidas2 жыл бұрын
@@patluvsvettes I've had better luck with Channel 6 than I have with 38 LSB. Lol. But you're right about the big amps. I don't mind that, really. I do like for the big amps to stay off 19, though. Truck Drivers still use that channel, when they aren't being blasted off of it. If it's too noisy, they tend to turn off their radios and stop giving traffic reports.

For the hobbyists or entities can install a car stereo cb multiplexer. You still only have 1 antenna (the cb antenna receives AM/FM and CB signals. You still receive AM/FM on the car stereo, and the cb can still receive and transmits as intended.) It's a bit of extra work, but for a clean install it's great.

The negatives listed are to be expected. A power line that hard wires into the fusebox and a need for an antenna are just how CBs come. Not being able to plug in a four pin power mic is a part of the sacrifice you make getting such a small radio.

CB is very much alive on Single Sideband mode. Locally here in the Philippines we use Channel 20 (27.205 Mhz) LSB lower sideband to communicate with CB operators as far as 50 miles away. Few years back when I still got my Cobra 146 GTL 40 channel SSB radio I used to monitor Canadian CB'ers 11,138 Km away from my location, cursing each other loud and clear at Channel 35 (27.355 LSB) during the daytime when sunspots activity is high. Indonesian CB'ers can be heard on Channel 30 (27.305 Mhz LSB). If you got sufficient Noise Blanker/ Automatic Noise Limiter (NB/ANL) function in your CB radio you will hear lots of DXing activities on your radio and maybe contact some of them DXers (stay away from the adjacent 10 meter 28 Mhz band as you will need an International License to contact HAMs around the world). While big gun Japanese CB'ers using hundred watts linear RF amplifiers are blasting away the whole CB band most notably Channel 4 (27.005 Mhz AM mode). You are right when you said that CB was a novelty nowadays on 40 channels AM/ FM mode radio. But when you got the right rig like the old school Cobra 148 GTL, Cobra 2000 GTL, Superstar 3900, or those oldie but goodies President Grant DX Single Sideband radios then you could still hear and communicate with lots of CBers from your neighboring Countries when skip propagations are good. BTW: I got the vintage version of this radio, the plain Cobra 19 LTD Classic, a nice and clean radio which I swapped for a Uniden Bearcat Scanner years ago.

Lived the CB life in the 70s and 80s, I miss it, been thinking about getting another home base and a mobile unit for a few years.... Back in the day, a large, diverse group in our county used to play the "Find Me" game by watching how strong their signal was and keeping an eye out for their cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.. we'd have impromptu gatherings at the diner, bowling alley, park, wherever. A very cool community. Good times. Also, if the grid/cell service goes down, you still have a battery powered way to communicate. Was really shocked to hear there is no chatter on 19! What is happening!!!?? lol 3s and 8s people, always

This radio uses a uhf antenna connector on the back of the radio but does not use a uhf antenna it uses a a 27mhz hf antenna if you use a uhf antenna you wont hear much or transmit very far and end up burning the final out of the radio

I hate to tell you but you should know what you're talking about if your gonna make KZbin videos pushing a radio. Twice you told people they would need a UHF ANTENNA in order to use the radio. No, cb radios DO NOT use UHF antennas, the use CB antennas which happen to be in the HF range of frequencies. Again, CBs use CB antennas, NOT a UHF antenna. If someone took your advice and attached an actual UHF antenna, they would have no functionality AND would burn out their radio. So you need to post a KZbin video that straightens ppl out about this. Nowurtalkin
@Revu2u2 жыл бұрын
Pushing a radio? 😂 For this particular 19 Mini CB radio….. it does not come with an antenna. This radio has a normal UHF antenna connector on the rear panel for connecting to an external antenna system. If you don’t like how Cobra built this thing, take it up with them.
