Yet again, another great episode. You guys are really open to trying everything and with such an open mind. If only other travel vloggers can take note. Can't wait for your next episode though, since Shanghai has truly one of the most diverse all day breakfast cafes.

I don’t recall Guotie was a breakfast item when I was growing up in Shanghai. It was more for lunch and the evening. Shenjianbao on the other hand, was a breakfast and lunch item.

That's interesting, thanks for letting us know. Guotie was available for breakfast and a delicious start to our day, but interesting to know it may not be a traditional breakfast item. How was it growing up there? We loved our 2 months in Shanghai.

There are a variety of breakfasts in China, and people eat different breakfasts in different regions. In addition to universal breakfasts such as porridge, steamed stuffed bun, deep-fried dough sticks and tea eggs, there are also many breakfasts with regional characteristics.

IMO, the best and proper way to eat Youtiao with Dòujiāng is... the dough stick has to be hot and fresh, the soy milk should be hot. Dip the youtiao into the bowl of soy milk like dunking a donut into coffee. Enjoy! Make sure the soy milk is sweeten or add some sugar to it. Unsweetened soy milk tastes like wallpaper paste.

Seriously, I don't think that Bao Zi is great. From my understanding of Bao Zi, its crust should not be so thick that you can just see little of the filling. The outside part of the Bao Zi should be as thin as possible. At least, you can completely touch its filling after you take a bite. I hate so little filling. >O< You should try another one next time.

Thanks for your comment. We will definitely try some more Baozi next time we visit. If you had a recommendation we would love to hear it 🙂
