I spend the day exploring the Mesopotamian Marshes of Iraq, a unique wetland area where the locals live on water in houses made from the reeds. I eat breakfast with an Iraqi family and get invited into a fascinating meeting place.

Would have liked more information on the architecture of the “meeting place”…how long it took to build it from marsh weeds, how it was built, foundation , how often the curved reed need to be replaced, lifetime of the beautiful structure …I would have more questions about it. Exactly 13 years ago, almost to the day, I was where you are. Of course, my circumstances were very different. I was working for the US military as a civilian contractor during a war. But seeing these images brings back many memories, far more than you can imagine. Thanks for posting. And, who knows? Maybe someday I'll get to return as a tourist.
