Then u can use social media as a platform to educate others and make ur money. They got it all backwards right now they think social media without skill is the end of all. They will be left out in the dry 10 years from now stuck. I think Envy implying that Eboni is shitting on bus drivers is being disingenuous. It’s not about the profession, it’s more about one’s ambition and progression. She didn’t say she wouldn’t date a bus driver, she said if he owned the bus… meaning as long as he’s progressed beyond just driving the bus. Eboni is about 40 years old and her resume speaks for itself. She wants to build a life with someone who has accomplished more in life.
@lolsmileyface1057 Жыл бұрын
What I got from Eboni is that many in the black community have the potential to maximize their skill set and go beyond what they’re willing to do at this moment. Unfortunately, many settle for average because it’s “good enough” but what we need to continue building is exceptionalism. She’s talking to the ones who knowingly do not want greater for themselves because they’re stuck under the ceiling of insecurity, white supremacy/“the white man is keeping me down”, and just pure laziness. But the part where we settle for “average” has been primed in our minds, and for some reason we accept that if we get crumbs, we are doing more than what other black people are able to do. We are capable of more fam and we should do everything in our power to break the ceilings in our mind to ascend to something greater. Instead of settling for driving a bus, think about owning your own company one day. Instead of settling for manager of a store, aspire to manage a district and more. This is all about the growth mindset. We can’t have growth if we continue to make excuses for not being successful. That’s not what our ancestors did during the civil rights era. They worked their asses off for a greater future FOR US! Communities like Black Wall Street were created by them. The goal of civil rights was so that we can rebuild that again without it being burned to the ground without repercussions. We need to take full advantage of every window of opportunity to excel and build greater for us.
@lolsmileyface1057 Жыл бұрын
And additionally, she refuses to accept mediocrity, and she refuses to accept that for her future partner. Women can choose to get the well established man, but it’s also not a bad idea to choose the one with an active growth mindset. The one who is in action and building their future.

A lot of men resent women who make more than them and become awful in these relationships because they're insecure. I've experienced this during my attempts to "date down" and "meet him where he is". Some of these men can't even relate to what we deal with career wise or what we have exposure to so they label you as "uppity" or "too smart" or even "trying to be YT". What's the problem to encourage the men in our community to achieve higher success. Shouldn't they already be thinking this way? How are you to afford a wife and family?

When in actuality obtaining the excellence that Eboni is speaking to that we want to see happen collectively takes fucking GRIT. To exercise that muscle you have to put your feelings aside and, take accountability and sit in the conviction that we can do better in order to move from mediocracy into our true highest individual potential. Oh, really? So what happened to somebody called Kelvin Samuels who stood on facts over feeling when talking to and calling out black people's bs? Black men took it on the chin, but once he got done addressing black men and turned towards black women with similar tone and energy, what did he get?? How many women came out in his defense telling other black women that they were reacting with feelings over facts?? To the point that he died and black women mocked and laughed at his demise of natural cause, just because he called out black women's flaws with facts and stats. Something that must be a taboo. Thus, this is how it is - A black woman can intelligently call out black men on their bs backed by facts and it's all good, but we all know a black man would catch hell for doing the exact same thing just like Kevin Samuels did. Now you've got all these women in the sisterhood cumbaya-ing with Ebony because the energy is directed at black men. Flip that around, I'd bet my life he would be canceled and made to apologize.

The problem is a lot of black folks get in their feelings when the conversation is about class, money, and our overall position in this society. Eboni is right! By the year 2050 the black community will be a underclass. We deflect from these conversations because it doesn’t make us feel good but if the conversation was about giving praise, everyone would be for it. Eboni is part of the problem. Where's her family at? The richest people in the world are families, people only talk about the individual billionaires on Forbes to confuse you. Every race and nationality that has done well in the states and actually has a piece of the American pie are families and cultures that are derived from those families. The biggest problem black people face(mostly black women) is not having traditional family values. Families make a community and build a nation. The worst thing that can happen is that a woman priorities a career and puts creating and nurturing a family on the back burner. It's a multi level catastrophic loss. The woman enriches the power structure by spending her time and efforts there, the children raise themselves which is never good, the women give away the families wealth to fast food/eating out(which are many multi million and multi billion dollar institutions) this also opens the door for health problems that shorten lifespan and quality of life, the woman is likely to have less kids or no kids at all(meaning population growth and voting power is stagnant or declining), the men become weak because of the ease of sex with working women using birth control to adopt a sex in the city lifestyle, and one the worst things to ever happen is that black women don't care about babies anymore and became the number one killer of black life through abortion. All of these things are the result of women and their choices to pursue careers and reject traditional female culture. They want black women to pursue careers because that keeps the community distracted and in constant chaos. The women would nurture the whole community by healing with food, providing care and medicine, empathy, teaching, and encouraging. This would boost morale, keep violence to a minimum, and more importantly take care of the man who will have to sacrifice his health and energy to build a better future for the next generation, along with leading, protecting, and providing for the current one.

The problem is, there are more than 1 conversations going on at the same time. 1. Ebony is really saying she wants someone that will meet her “hustle”. Someone to aspire to more than just the everyday career. She thinks this speaks to character, drive, and ambition. (Most people equate occupation, income, and status as success) 2. Ebony is sharing her belief that the black culture of people are not aware of the need to achieve more than the average life style of being avg working class because that keeps us in poverty or lower middle class. 3. Average & mediocre jobs are conflated with the “character” of people, instead of it just being their career. At the end of the day I believe people work and try their best to create a life for themselves the best way they know how until they learn better or get better opportunities. It doesn’t mean they are personally lower than anyone else because they don’t make more or have more. However, they do deserve more and may need to have a helping hand and guidance.

If the C you bring home is your absolute best then that’s great and you are exceptional. BUT if you the accept the C just because it’s passing and “good enough” when you KNOW you can achieve that A THATS when you are average, mediocre, etc. Basically the black community can’t afford for everyone to be that definition of average/mediocre. We are dying and stuck because of it and refusal to acknowledge you are accepting to be average/mediocre just bc it’s hurts your feelings is a huge disadvantage to the black community and where we could be if we didn’t let those feelings get in the way of greatness. We as a community have to hold ourselves accountable for accepting less than what we are capable of just bc it’s good enough and being called out on it makes us feel bad.

What Envy said was powerful. A lot of black people are starting from such a place of disadvantage that the best thing they can do is work their asses off so that they can pass the baton to their children; so their children actually get a fair shot. We grow by operating as a community, not just thinking about what is best for us as individuals and optimizing our individual potential. Just like on a basketball team, it's not for everyone to score. Sometimes you need to set a screen. She *LIED* about the dictionary definition of *mediocre/mediocrity* Here is what the Merriam-Webster says: Did you know? People interested in words always point out that mediocrity doesn't mean quite what its main root would indicate: Why doesn't it describe something that's right in the middle of the pack, exactly what you would expect? Instead the words mediocrity and mediocre always suggest disappointment. A mediocre play is one you wish you hadn't wasted an evening on, and the mediocre actor in it should probably find another profession. A person can even be called a mediocrity, though it isn't very nice and you'd never do it to his face.
@gaila.9852 Жыл бұрын

I agree with DJ Envy’s sentiment. The snippet was probably taken out of context but like he said, people were offended by it. And to all the people saying they agree with her, ownership doesn’t relieve you from mediocrity. It’s an internal thing. Mrs. Vanzant’s whole point was about searching inside. At the end of your life, what would have mattered most; your salary and material possessions or your character? All of our salaries, small or large, can be gone tomorrow. That doesn’t mean be complacent. It means remember what’s most important! I would say both sides made for a balanced conversation but Eboni seemed defensive most of the time. Like the other co-host said, “she didn’t stand 10 toes down”. She used the statistics that blacks died at a disproportionate rate to other groups during COVID because of our exposure as essential workers as a way to support her point but it just seemed like she was moving the goal post. None of that had anything to do with the broader narrative of her interview with Mrs. Vanzant. Like DJ Envy said, whether you meant to or not….you did offend the backbone of the US economy. Not Lawyers, doctors and accountants, but average workers, small businesses and blue collar workers, militia workers make it possible for her to “advocate” as she claimed. I was personally offended by the narrative notwithstanding how sensational it was.

I agree 100% with what she is saying. I say this all the time, the need for skills & certifications is essential. The only problem I have, it is assumed that Black Americans are okay with kids getting c’s & d’s in school; then, going to college and not excelling. Absolutely no way have I ever been okay with that, and it’s in poor taste, to think that most of us are okay with it. Life is like a circle: church, family, community, and education. All facets are important and must be aligned. When one is off, it affects the other. Not saying, there won’t be much success, but it’ll be harder to attain. For instance, Eboni comes from a single parent household; yet, her family life didn’t stop her from achieving anything. The biggest attainment out of the four is education. There won’t be much skill set without it. Not only just education, but people need to UNDERSTAND the importance of it, and understand WHY it’s needed or conceptualism. It’s like learning math. It would be hard to learn the different lessons of math, without learning the concepts first. Some people may not know the importance of understanding why skill sets are needed.

I want to say this: I was a school bus driver. For those of you who don't know; school bus drivers have to obtain a CDL. That is a commercial driver's license. This license is issued by the Department of Transportation from whatever state you live in. A school bus driver has to know all 200 parts of and the functionality of their bus and demonstrate this knowledge in a written and professional driver's test. You have to learn how to drive what is called a flat nose bus and a bus with a nose. As well as an automatic bus vs. An air brake bus. If you cannot demonstrate your knowledge or that you can operate this vehicle safely then you cannot obtain a Class B driver's license. A class B Is a step down from a class A which truckers have to operate their rigs. Class B gives the driver the authority to operate all passenger vehicles, additionally a class B also has school bus clearance. In being a school bus driver you have to have customer service skills, ability to focus, and master distracted driving, maintain safety on and off the bus, pupil management, interpersonal skills, as well as minor mechanical skills. You also have to know how to articulate yourself across radio platforms and you also participate in Transportation boards and trainings. Every 6 years you have to re-cerify. Being a bus driver is not a joke. It is not a position that involves dumb or unskilled people. Having a class B has always allowed me to drive for whatever company I wanted to. As a bus driver my salary was between $40,00]-$65,00 a year. So for people that keep thinking being a school bus driver is a step down....educate yourself. I want to add the money I just said I made, I made it on a PART TIME schedule. So again....educate yourself

They can buy everything in the world except class and respect. We’ll educated people die alone everyday, why is that? There is no price tier for success. If my dream is to live off of the grid growing my own food and hanging out with animals all day does that make me mediocre? No! if that was my goal then i am completely successful. Success is internally derived not outwardly measured by your money and career status. If everyone was a lawyer and on-air personality like her, we would starve. Goals don’t have to be monetary or status driven and that’s what everyone is pushing back on. Great she accomplished her version of success, but don’t project your version of success on some one who has a completely different perspective of what success is.
