I was overwhelmed with Joy when I learned about this. As a Cameroonian and typical African, i can't wait to see this Monumental and Majestic Structure erected in the Very heart of a Continent that represents more than life in its Essence and which has indeed given so much to the Planet as a whole. I am concerned about this "gift" even though an African American designed it. A "gift" from the U.S.? I don't trust it. It could be a Trojan Horse, having nothing to do with the Artist. Some Africans from the Continent with a certain white savior mindset would not understand this. They see it as something to be proud of because their country was chosen for this monument. Just saying. No disrespect.

@@cjgmc1 Countries had to bid to host this monument. Cameroon won the bid for many reasons including its location and unmatched ethnic, cultural and geographical diversity. The monument is for all of Africa and Cameroon winning the bid should be celebrated by Cameroonians and Africans as a whole. The host country doesn't matter as much as the significance of the monument. By the way, the project is funded by American Stars, mostly African American so it doesn't have much to do with the US government.

So The Unites States is building a monument to thank Africa for all of their contributions to the world. This is literally a slap in the face. “Yes we’ve taken your land, people and resources. To pay you back for your sacrifice we’re going to build you a statue. You’re welcome”. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Untill We Africans are ready to take responsibility for our lives and destinies rather than blaming others and playing the victim, the status quo will remain unchanged. You need to read comments from some Cameroonians on Facebook regarding this Monument. You'll feel sorry for them and the degree of ignorance. Most of them do not even know the Spiritual and Cultural Significance of it, let alone the economic impact it will have not only on this Country but on the Continent as a whole. Such a shame!!!

The Govt won't be able to loot a penny of this project. Basically a construction company will do the work and they get paid by the financer, the Cameroon govt will not be able to get their hands on any penny .
