Tama naman from the POV of Canada. Di naman kasi ang intentionn ng student visa is to try to get PR and then citizenship eventually. Ang spirit ng visa na yun is just to study cause you want to get an education in a developed country. Kaso lets face it the education part is just secondary ang habol talaga ng iba makatira na duon permanently. Kung wala namang pathway for PR I doubt people would study in Canada for that purpose only...

If they wish to come here as a student they would best be served by taking courses that our economy needs. Healthcare, building trades. Masters and above education. These small colleges with short courses at the undergrad level don't lead to employment that can help the newcomer afford our cost of living, so they would be stuck here in poverty.

Unlike before during those times we are applying we are very honest for our purpose that we need to get the job in order to get a PR so we can reunite our family here and to give a better future for our children. By then so, we have to agree the contract signing between employer and employee give and take at the same time. But now they’re just using the student visa as their stepping stone. Hi! Not to burst anyone’s bubble but I kinda sensed that this video ended with a sour note. I agree that the new IRCC directive will affect so many but it’s not entirely hopeless. PGWP and OWP are STILL granted for students taking Master’s and Doctorate programs (we could’ve emphasized this more than the disadvantages mentioned which reeked hopelessness). I think Canada is seeking to get skilled or would be skilled workers with this new direction. I strongly believe that if you and your family are determined to start life anew in Canada, it is still a viable option but there’ll just be major adjustments to make. Good thing though is for Master’s, you automatically get a 3 year PGWP (and that extends to your spouse’s OWP too). Also, to those working via OWP, I salute you for boosting Canada’s economy. I don’t think you’re ever a burden to the country since you pay your dues and taxes just like any regular Joe. Nevertheless, thank you for the info imparted in this video. My 2 cents. God Bless!

The biggest challenges we face now is a cost of living crisis in Canada. We wish to encourage educated professionals who can secure good employment to come and stay. Many students are arriving without the funds to support themselves. Our housing is very expensive and in short supply, and our grocery prices are soaring. We cannot continue to bring in students who will starve or be homeless as many of our citizens are in these dire straits themselves and are entitled to whatever limited government support we do have available. Life post pandemic in this country is hard for people who are already established here. People choosing the student pathway would best be served by applying for masters and above programs, or in high demand trades such as carpentry or nursing as they are likely to continue to receive government support as these industries lack employees.

Being an international student is not a guaranteed path to permanent residency. Dapat po ready ang current and incoming students sa reality na yan. The increase in the number of students placed undue pressure sa social services, housing, health care etc. And Canada did not give false promises to students. Mashado kasing nahype to and ginagamet na backdoor to becoming an immigrant. Also watch ung mga interviews sa Minister, he did several interviews after the announcement.

To all international students I have a question? Why become student in Canada? If your end goal is to be permanent immigrant apply for landed immigrant . It will probably cost you the same. I think if you are highly skilled and educated Canada will grant you permanent resisency plus got it fair and square Student means you just want growth in your field so you can go back to your job to be more knowledgeble . I don't think that would be a big impact to individuals who wanted to apply for a student visa. I beg to differ. Canada needs immigrants for its economy to thrive. If I'm not mistaken, the whole point of the Canadian government originally providing PGWP options for international students was to attract young people to study here and hopefully like it enough to want to stay, work, and eventually become citizens. Ang malungkot, sobrang daming opportunistic agencies sa Pilipinas that pushed trusting Filipinos to apply to fly-by-night schools in cities that are not only saturated but crazy expensive (e.g. Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, ON). The students would pay ridiculous amounts of money for subpar education. They learn little to nothing and therefore leave school ill-prepared for the Canadian job market. I know this firsthand 'coz I came to Canada half a decade ago for my masters. When I was in the Philippines, nag-try din ako mag-inquire in an agency. When I told them I was eyeing a particular university 'coz I liked its program and the fact that it's one of Canada's top universities and part of the top 100 universities in the World, the agent was discouraging me from pursuing it. Pinilipit niya na mag-Ontario ako. So na-turn off ako, and did it myself na lang, so I could go to the university I wanted.

Thanks sa pag himay ng news. I think as a pinoy that are already here in Canada it is also our duty to inform our kababayans of the current situation dito. I know mahirap ngayon sa pinas with the inflation but it is happening in most countries in the world including Canada. Its not always rainbows and butterflies mga kababayan. And maybe this recent news is not kawalan sa mga nagpplano palang dumating dito but rather, a redirection. Kasi right now, kung walang gagawin yung Canada gov, downhill din going to recession ang kakalabasan. Last 2021 apr is at 3-4% lang. Then last year it became 6-7% apr which almost double and much worse than during the pandemic which is nasa 4.5% lang (I am talking about interest rate which is a determinant ng economic standing ng country). Who knows what this year will hold. So far, nag die down ng konti yung war sa europe, pero here we go naman between palestine and israel. 😢

Well kung normal student ka lang talaga and hindi mo plan gawing stepping stone ang pagiging student to be a citizen, I think ok pa din yung student visa ng Canada. If you plan on getting a master’s or doctorate degree, hindi naman ganun katagal yun to be away from your family kung gusto mo talaga ng international study credentials in your resume. It’s not only unaffordable housing affected a lot but also the delayed of processing of the previous applicants for PR. Then after ng schooling Nila pag hindi mkahanap ng work sisihin ang CANADA na Wlaa daw silang work. Sobrang Bigat na ng renta like us before kung nagbabayad kami noon ng $125 for weekender and $300 for full time renter eh sa ngayon Sobra Sobra pa. I don’t see the logic why they no longer allow the open work permit of spouses. Maybe, they’re encouraging post graduates instead. But honestly, allowing OWP makes this program an immigration pathway. Maybe they’re thinking of bringing it back to what it was many years ago and getting back its integrity.

That's exactly what the government is doing. They wish to encourage more masters and PhD educated to remain in this country post graduation to help support our economy. They are also considering areas that have specific job needs to allow schools that provide that training to continue to be able to grant work permits (nursing, trade schools for home builders for example. We need carpenters, electricians, plumbers and the like). They are focusing in on removing schools that offer sub standard courses that won't assist newcomers to being able to secure stable jobs that can support them in our expensive economy. It's cruel to bring people in and charge them huge tuitions for a program that won't get them hired, and in communities where they cannot find good housing or safe working conditions. Students would be best served to apply for trade schools if they wish to study at the college level now.

In my analysis, ang Canada ay nasa trial and error era with regards to giving international student visas. In return, yung mga pending or soon to be international students ay nasa limbo period kung "go" or "no go" ba ang mga plano nila. Yung mga nasa Canada na ay magkakaroon ng period of anxiety kung what is next na ipapalabas ng immigration department. Bottom line, hawag naman sana, is Canada will retain the "cream of the crop students" the will be beneficial to the society.... isa pa pong pahabol, what if your school is a "fly by night", diploma mill school or failed sa Canadian Education standard and that school gave you the international student visa? Isa lang po na naiisip ko na baka gawin clean up process and student out of status sa Canada.

Yes. We are focusing on providing an education that will secure work that will pay high enough wages to support yourself in this country. Our cost of living crisis has made it difficult in our largest cities to afford homes even with two working professionals earning above $200,000 CAD. Poor quality education will limit newcomers to poverty conditions and risk their access to housing. I am in Victoria BC and even one bedroom apartments are very limited in supply. The rent will be in excess of 1200CAD/month at a minimum with multiple people applying. The local university only guarantees on campus housing for first year students and then you must find something in the community. The colleges offer no housing at all.

We have a lot of international students arriving without the means to support themselves economically. Our housing crisis makes it difficult to secure an apartment and the costs are soaring as is our groceries. This leaves the students desperate to work anywhere and ripe for exploitation to be able to afford to be here. Our food banks can't provide enough groceries to our citizens who are struggling, they won't be an option for hungry international students. That leaves the students desperate to earn money in any job they can find and they are often in awful working conditions because they are stuck. We want to end all of this and be able to offer a good quality of life for new residents.

We're definitely heading into a recession in Canada, so it's happening and a lot of things are changing. By reducing the number of quotas for International students, the biggest impact affecting some individuals is that they will lose a lot of what they could do. By closing the door to OWP for spouses of International students as well as temporary newcomers, it will lead to a projected recession this year 2024. I hope this does not happen because many will lose their jobs. 🙏📿🙏

Oh no. Dapat nag proceed na kami last year sa student visa. Australia nalang ata kami dadalhin ng hangin neto. D pa din alam ng agency namin kung anung best course of action para samin. We'd love to be in Canada cause most of my relatives are there already so hindi kami mahihirapan incase matuloy kami jan. Anyways, you guys have always been our guide with our plans to be there. The goal, in my opinion, is to find solutions for the welfare of international students as well as Canada. However, I only hope that they have taken into account the potential fallout from this choice, which includes: 1. The prospective cancellation of an international student's plan to continue their studies in Canada. As everyone knows, a significant amount of Canada's government revenue comes from international students. I hope they have a backup plan in case these cancellations result in a loss of revenue. 2. These colleges/universities may decide to raise tuition for domestic students in light of the potential loss of revenue from international enrollment. Can the government guarantee that the impact of this would be felt by domestic students? 3. An increasing number of foreign students are choosing to hunt for LMIA jobs in order to obtain a working permit rather than continuing their education while they are in Canada.

Also, I agree with you that there is gray area in the said announcement. I think the Government of Canada should clear: 1. Removal of PGWP privilege on International Student. a. Is this applicable to new foreigner applicant ONLY to study in Canada? b. Is this applicable or exception to the existing International Student studying in Canada or applying for extension for study in Canda? c. Is this applicable or exception to international student who graduated this year and applying for PGWP? 2. Removal of Open Work Permit (OWP) for spouses of international Student. Similar question: a. Is this applicable to the spouse of new foreigner applicant ONLY to study in Canada? b. Is this applicable or exception to the existing to the spouse of International Student studying in Canada or applying for extension for study in Canda? c. Is this applicable or exception to the spouse of international student who graduated this year and applying for PGWP? Hope they would hold the guideline or can update it at least and ensure: 1. A clear and well detailed information guidelines regarding this new policy 2. This should be coordinated first to all parties’ concern like the colleges/Universities and provincial government/agencies to ensure that all policies, processes and document requirements related to this implementation are readily available before announcement of the new policy.
