This was elementary, my dear Watson. We are talking about a virtually automatic coffee system. You lift the lid, insert a pod, and push a button. The guy brings his cup. The bot lifts a lid, inserts a pod, closes the lid and pushes a button. (then we get a rerun). The robot idles, the guy retrieves the cup. There's very minor learning here.
@phen-themoogle7651 Жыл бұрын
True, simple task, but still learned from just watching a human do something without manually programming each task. It's the learning in context that makes this big. A one year old baby could see us do this, but would it memorize those 3 steps in the correct order and be able to physically repeat the process as fast as this learned it? The technology is still in the 'infant stage', but imagine if the context learning continues for a few years and they even improve as much as human children do. But with this kind of technology, they could do virtually training or have synthetic video data and simulate years of knowledge in a matter of hours (if everything is set-up just right it could learn from videos), but even if it takes months to reach a 5 year old child level, exponential improvement will happen surpassing most people's expectations, and do things better than the best humans (in a few years). It's a new type of learning.

I think some critical ground work that is being overlooked at this point is communication. At some point it will become critical for efficient execution of tasks, that if a Robot is not understanding the task or what the intended result if doing said task is, the robot may wish to ask a question. These embodied AI robots are eventually going to need to have the ability to vocalize what they are needing to know about any task that might be given to them. At the moment it seems the communication is strictly one way. We will quickly discover we need two way communication if we are to realize the full utility of embodied AI. Perhaps if they really feel a need to clarify something and if they’re dexterous enough , one might just pick up a pen on its own and write out any question it might have if it is faced with a critical decision that will make a significant difference to the outcome of a given task. Who can say really…?
@elirothblatt5602 Жыл бұрын
Communications already outpaced robotics with LLMs. It’s a choice, not a limitation, that the robots aren’t chatty. Probably so we the public are less alarmed.
@jmf6000 Жыл бұрын
It can just ask chatgpt
@phen-themoogle7651 Жыл бұрын
It won't make a major difference at this point because they are just training to do specific tasks and don't have the ability to perform at an AGI level knowing the exact right questions to ask or interpret if they understand or not (they just do what they are programmed to do, it's not critical thinking yet) for it to improve or do something without prompting first (and just learn everything by asking what it needs to learn or via conversation). If it's in the middle of a task it needs to either succeed or fail it to learn from the data at this moment (it's like babies learning muscle memory and trying to crawl before learning how to talk). Communication with LLM even if embodied don't always translate well, although some companies have embodied LLM or have ones capable to understand spoken commands or basic conversations with them. It doesn't make the hardware much better atm, because the software (/metaphorically voice/communications unrelated to real world actions) is just much better. And they do get feedback from humans if the tasks they do are correct , otherwise it would just keep doing it the same way without improvement. But yeah, the training will get even easier and voice communication programming them by just human language will be possible in the near future. It's going to be insane how much progress is made by the end of the year.
@torsteneide4915 Жыл бұрын
@@elirothblatt5602 it almost seems that the bigger advances in AI are “emerging” rather than being intentionally designed. At least initially and then additional code is being added onto that ability in order to further shape it into the most desired outcome. I could be completely wrong about that though. Also in this specific case, I don’t really think about LLMs and robotics as separate, but more as a case that would be considered as an embodied AI. LLMs have already displayed the emergence of unintended and unexpected abilities. It’s truly fascinating to watch this field grow and mind blowing how quickly it’s been developing with an increasing rapidity of progress. If we were somehow able to take a peek into the future to a year from now to see how I think It’s going to be very surprising indeed to see how far advanced this will all be in only that short period of time. I think the only thing I can say for certain, is that it’s so incredibly lucky to be alive at this time to witness this happening!
@elirothblatt5602 Жыл бұрын
@@torsteneide4915 to be specific, LLMs outperform most humans at most verbal analytical and communicative tasks. Quicker, more accurate, and with better rapport with human audiences. So they way outpace humanoid robotic physical capability. The only reason all these humanoid robots are not equipped with a chatbot that can pass bar exams and medical licensing exams in multiple languages, is the choice of the roboticists not to put that kind of video out. Chatbots are superhumanly verbal already. Humanoid robots do not yet have superhuman movement and physical skill capability. But it looks like it’s coming soon.
@vonfragyou Жыл бұрын
Very cool discussion, thanks for the video. The thing to note is that in every situation shown the environment is very basic with no clutter. Once there robots can do this is a real world environment then we will be there. Obviously factories, hospitals etc. can be designed for these limitations in the beginning of use. Humans will have to evolve to bring value to there existence, i.e. the continued struggle of humanity for the beginning of time.

This could have a huge military application in that one can take old aircraft (as well as ground vehicles) and then have a robot fly (or drive) them in dangerous missions where the aircraft are much larger than say small quad UAVs and such and thus can carry much heavier payloads over much longer ranges and be much less susceptible to jamming if they are autonomous. Not sure about this company if they will make 'affordable' humanoids for the average household (20-30k, most people would consider them over a 2nd car), but they wouldn't spend millions on the research if they don't think they will be able to make a huge profit in them with maybe in factories/businesses or on some major scale (An example is Amazon purchasing digit humanoid bots for 250k each from that other humanoid company and already have some of them in their factories working), humanoids generally would need to be 10x cheaper than they are now for the public and Tesla has the means to produce humanoids at a more affordable price from my research (or will by 2026-2027). But most humanoid companies could start out at 250k for each humanoid for businesses for a few years (2025-2027), and whatever factory is capable of making millions of humanoids will be able to produce them much more cheaper and they will be affordable relatively fast (2027-2035) humanoid robots scale up faster than cars though, because the humanoids will be capable of building more of themselves so it will be exponentially. Could be billions of humanoids by the early 2030s. When there's billions they will be 100x cheaper than now, $2000,$3000 and could be treated like how we purchase cellphones with monthly payments until they are paid off.

How did you know I have a pool. humanoid: sir, it's on google maps and I have every human who owns a pool in this city memorized💀

And eventually the AI is filming everything they do or live streaming it and becoming KZbinrs themselves lol

Can anybody comment on the block image on the side of the coffee machine? It is similar to the Boston dynamics graphics on the staging. Is this an easy way for the robot to figure out where the coffee machine is? Do you think it’s a different strategy to Optimus which uses cameras on objects rather than reference points?

This is not new news. Telsa has been doing this with Optimus since before 2021. Tesla demonstrated video training using a motion control operator in 2021. Elon said they were moving to training from video. I suspect that the sorting from last years Optimus update may have been from video. The egg demo in the recent Optimus Gen 2 video release could easily have been captured from an online instruction video for the Mini Egg Cooker.

This bold statement by Adcock will make or break these guys for a time. If it's on point, we have a good race going, if it's trumped up to steal Optimus thunder they will be screwed for a few years in the media and Figure 01 will be a great Keurig accessory.

How to use robots in a factory.1 all robots must be registered with the government to work in a factory.2. Only individuals can own and register robots for factory work. 3. Individuals can only register one bot for factory work. 4. Individuals will be paid by the factory for the work that their bot does. Results - everyone has a source for income, and all companies have a source for cheep labor.

And this is where I was wondering. How does Tesla have an edge in comparison to other companies with vision training? Google or some Startup seem to be able to figure it out.
@trengilly01 Жыл бұрын
I think Tesla's big edge will be in manufacturing bots. They seem well positioned to build robots at scale and at a much lower cost than other companies can. 100% inhouse process, custom actuators, their own batteries. Optimus is designed from the ground up to be cheap and easy to manufacture. The actual AI training seems like something that multiple companies will soon figure out.
