Breaking down fake check job scams

Employment scams have been the riskiest for North American consumers for two years running, according to data collected through BBB's Scam Tracker program.

Thanks. I just got contacted by one of these scam sites. I didn’t accept the check and I called the company whose name they were using, and they confirmed it is a scam.

...Thank you so much for posting this video! you just saved me from making that mistake... they sent me a paycheck, my bank placed a hold on it for 6 days... in the meantime they asked to get a prepaid debit card and put $500 into it (Petty cash funds for some expenses that they will reimburse me later)... I started to get suspicious, then I watched this video and followed your advice... I called the check issuing bank and confirmed that the check was not legit...

happened to me. Cashed the check but luckily bank caught it being suspicious and didn't put it through and then I realized it was a scam after doing quick internet search. I feel so dumb.

Why do US banks give you access to the funds before cheque clears. This does not happen in Australia

Yep this happened to me 4650 check and I called her out. Researched the bank and check before I even deposited it. Too good to be true. 4650 for a Laptop??????

It happened to me. I had an intuition that it might be fake, but i tried to deposit the check to see if it was all good, when I did it, I thought it was real because I thought I had the money on my hands. And days after, I realized all this bullshit wasn’t truth. Hopefully the bank will help me get my money back someway

i commented on another video but this one is more related to my situation. i have not gotten as far as the check and didn't tell them which bank i'm with but they have my phone number, address and name. is there anything they can do with this info? i saw they also are linked to identity theft as well. the initial job scam email that i signed up for and provided the basic information was through my college school email so i automatically figured it was safe. are they able to access any of my information? just nervous and could use some advice on what to do (i already blocked/reported the email and their phone number and i emailed my school informing them that job scams were sent to student emails) i was under the impression that it was a job w the school. i feel so dumb

Another potential part of this scam is that they will ask you to provide personal information (SSN, Driver's license) to verify your work eligibility. Then they sent you the check as described in the video. Please be aware

@@mischrb7388 you should place fraud alert on all 3 credit bureaus amd freeze your credit reports. This will limit the scammer's ability to take a loan / open credit card in your name.

This happened to me a few days ago. My spidey senses were tingly but ignored them. As soon as I got sent the check I new it was fake. I felt so violated because they have my drivers license and address. I plan on freezing my credit information though.
