On the shooting down of the Mi-17 , why was the IFF unit not fitted on the helicopter and also, how could the ATC have given permission for the Mi-17 to takeoff, guess the ATC was'nt aware volatile situation ... usually areas coved by SAMs are no fly zones...

Very good discussion. On the topic of theaterisation/jointmanship of the armed forces, one of the most important aspect is communication system. There must be an integrated secure communication/datalink, that can be used by all 3 services. They must be able to talk to each other to fight together. On the other hand Airforce is missing out on force multipliers, which could make the difference in military conflicts. There must be war like focus on acquiring force multipliers. Army and Airforce must work together to come up with plans to have specific Army personnel/vise versa act as Air attack controllers to direct close air support and other offensive air operations from forward positions. This is specifically important in case of Spec Ops. One or more members of Spec Ops team must be qualified air attack controller. The services must adapt to the new age warfare and not fight in silos. There must also be Psy Ops/PRO command under CDS. All military operation information/communication must flow through this command and keep control on military/operational narrative.

Bharat's AD system is obsolete junk .. but there is hope for the future. Once the S400/ Project usha is widely deployed, and backed up by VL-SRSAM and anti BMD Bharat will have a much better AD system in the short term .. 4-5 years.

Also we have our own Identify Friend or Foe system. In this case after balakote the russian chopper took off without switching on the IFF and got hit by the spyder which did what it was supposed to do. I don't know why Shiv left this out !!

This self bragging must stop. There are no independent entities that have acknowledged our capabiities to be world class. Anytime we are do a joint exercise, our partners are not going to say that we are not good. This would first be bad form, second doesn't help them sell us weapons. We are at best average and have a long way to go before, we can be amongst the very best.

At last some one with sanity spoke the truth.. Kargil war exposed how inept our tactics and I'll prepared we were in coordination to just fight of few terrorists losing more men from our side. Then recently Pakistan was able to give us surprise attack even partially succeed. But our godi media underplayed it.. A pilot caught by enemy is a shame. But we acted as if it an achievement. Nope we are weak force don't even have drone tech or hypersonic missles.. Which iran with most sanctions has it.. It's complete shame

Iran with all sanctions has a drone complex and exports it.. They have hypersonic missiles while look at the pathetic position of India..neither does have homegrown drone or hypersonic missile and these channel is discussing what we don't have.
