What is the point to cut interest rates while stock market is at ATH? Please explain how it is not politics.

Good question. Fed's perspective: The Real Funds rate is historically high, inflation is coming down, and we don't want unemployment to ramp higher just to get inflation down another 0.5%. If the unemployment rate ticks above 4.1% Powell suggested they would cut irrespective of the timing before the election. If the economy holds at 2.0% and inflation stalls near 3.0%, the Fed would likely only cut once and it could come after the election. This help?
