About the episode:
In the final episode of Season 1 of The Edge, Dr. Marcus Ranney and Prof. Tim Noakes round up all the subjects that were spoken about in the previous episodes. From a low carbohydrate diet to exercise physiology, this episode features everything. Tune in to understand your body better and how to fuel it correctly for longevity, wellbeing and optimum performance.
About the host:
Dr. Marcus Ranney's career journey over the past two decades has led him from sick care to wellbeing - from the patient's bedside to a wider stage as he now creates global impact via systemic change by championing wellbeing.
A published best selling author, keynote speaker, digital talk show host and public health commentator, he has been a World Economic Forum’s Global Shaper and more recently appointed as a Senior Fellow to the Atlantic Council, working on a project exploring the relationship between the climate crisis and planetary health. A champion of wellbeing, Marcus is a big believer that sustainably improving the lives of billions of people the world over can only be brought about by enhancing the positive aspects of health rather than focusing solely on pathogenesis and disease.
Completing his Bachelors of Science and Medical degrees from University College Medical School in London his passion for extreme physiology has allowed him to conduct field research across the planet. With expeditions taking him to the sides of Everest, skiing in the Arctic and the European Alps, he has served as a medical officer in the Royal Air Force and at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
After practicing clinical medicine in London, in 2010, he made the transition to Mumbai where he has worked within the Healthcare and Life-sciences industry as a Strategic advisor and Investor with a range of MNC and national bellwether firms.
Augmenting his contributions towards planetary health commentary, the Covid-19 pandemic brought Marcus back to the frontlines of medicine as a medical volunteer for his country’s fight against controlling the virus.
Marcus now divides his energies amongst the three major components of his wellbeing framework - the individual, the team and the system; through various digital ventures and initiatives.
Marcus is a keen athlete and long distance marathon runner, he holds a Guinness World Record for backwards running(!) and thoroughly enjoys being a father to his two young children.

Can we please have those 24 studies Prof. Tim Noakes was talking about so we can arm ourselves against vegans and vegetarians?

We don't have to be at war or 'against' vegans, everyone is different, or at least they have evolved their microbiome to be different. This is why different people do equally well on plants and/or animal foods, the body adapts.

Muscle is Insulinresistant when there is a (transient) depletion in Potassium in diet: Any muscle Insulin Resistance worse inmediatly (and in the long-term) with Glucose (Sugar). Fatigue will be worse with Carbohydrates at any level. Fats, in general are BETTER IN PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE, as ypu do. THANK YOU, PROFESSOR. SINCE LIMA.

Acute glucose depletes potassium in muscle, more in insulin resistante subjects.

Salmon is a good source of potassium. 👍. Sodium is also essential.

I love this way of eating, that is sooo good! Bread, sweets, not so good for me anymore :D sometimes i eat little bread or sweets, but then i realize, what is really good :) and you cant eat a lot of carbs, only a little, when it is regulated! Your body tells you everything, once your insulin and taste are normal 😀😁😊

The most problematic in training whether it's running or cycling is your ego. You need to fight it every day, since it's not your friend. It's your biggest enemy
