It’s not lost, you just need to stop looking at pop stars for it. Look at the amazing producers behind those pop stars. Or artists like Jon Bellion or Ronnie Radke from falling in reverse. Or the lead singer of bear tooth who writes, records, mixes and masters every record. Talented musicians aren’t lost, in fact with artists like polyphia and dance Gavin dance it’s clear there are better musicians alive today than ever in history, you just don’t take the time to find them.

I am singer-songwriter myself. I happen to arrange my own songs. So this thing about color and shape thing. I do see music same way. So I used to think I AM CRAZY and music doesn’t happen that way. And I had a small thought process on this. So early in my childhood days I used to listen to music on the early version of windows media player. And there was this visualisation option, where we could set a style. Nd every small elements used to take one shape and color. So may be that’s why I see every element of a song that way. I'm not the best at instrument recognition, but it seems like at the very beginning there are different violins with a... distorted oboe(?) to make lower background notes, slowly adding instruments to intensify. Then it goes into a (probably) clarinet with a background complex of instruments that sounds like is coming from an old radio, some percussions and I recognized even a clock ticking Edit: I'm not to sure if what I came up with is right, but I'll update when I'll have more time to listen and analyze it

An interesting idea for the instrumorphing, doing a fourier transform could convert it into component sine waves that could be interpolated between (you'd have to interpolate the phase and amplitude rather than the real and imaginary parts or else it would just be fading). There's a lot of messy stuff with applying fourier transforms to audio, but most of it has been figured out by audio compression people.
