Just ordered a 2023 6hp model tonight! I keep hearing they're the Toyota of outboards so if that's true, I'll be extremely happy.

My last outboard was a 9.8 2 stroke Tohatsu which was an absolute beauty - first or second pull every time. Just got myself a new 6hp as I've been out of the game and went with Suzuki but I rate the 'Hatsu highly

Great vid. I just got my 2024 ^Hp as well. I'm noticing that when the motor warms up (aroudn 10min run time) the engne misfires at highter rpm and bogges down at higher rpm. Has anyone else seen this?

Noice! I just got the same motor. Manual says vary throttle after that 10min idle break in. Full throttle ok for 1 min then back down. Also say Breakin should be done under load in gear. A metal 55 gal drum works great to hold it and run it in. Q my friend. Can you turn yours off by pushing in red button? I have to yank killswitch lanyard out to kill motor. No pushing or mashing of buttun will shut it off. Then its a pita to put little plastic kill key thing back in to get going. So wondering if you can push red button to stop the motor on yours?
@ThatGuy-cb3yv2 жыл бұрын
You gotta push and hold on mine but it works.
@FishingWithHeath3 ай бұрын
Yup just push the button!
@gregkobylarz86482 ай бұрын
I own and have owned several Tohatsu/Mercury portable outboards. All you have to do is press in the red button and hold it until it shuts down. I see lots of people on KZbin pulling the cord. Not necessary to remove the cord..

What is the situation of storing the Tohatsu 6 ph with internal tank of it's side while it still has gas in the internal tank? Does it leak? Can you store on the side with some gas in the tank??
@FishingWithHeath Жыл бұрын
It does not leak if you store it on the proper side. There are directions on the side of the Tohatsu
@dustinj7650 Жыл бұрын
you can transport the motor on either side with full gas in the internal tank and it does not leak. I have not tried long term storage on its side, but it is fine for car transport.
@budroberts59297 ай бұрын
Put some Sea Foam in the gas, pull the cord a few times to circulate it into the carburettor (OFF or run it). Last time of the year, add Sea Foam to the gas.

Did you add engine oil? Might be a manufacturing defect
@FishingWithHeath2 жыл бұрын

store it on a proper motor stand; if stored in the wrong orientation oil can leak into the cylinder causing hard starting, white smoke and engine cut out

Where’s the cheapest place to get one of these?

Out of the back of a boat in a marina. Make sure you go at night.

@budroberts59297 ай бұрын
Cheapest? Where they pay their employees cheapest wages. Do you think Tohatsu makes a high quality engine by making it the cheapest way possible? See if Troy-Bilt makes an outboard engine, or Walmart for a cheap outboard engine. How about go to a professional marina where they are also going to have a spare propeller, a spare pin, the right oil, the right lower unit oil and people who know engines who can advise you and help you and launch you and repair you. If you buy it at Walmart do you think you will get any help there? Yeah, I'm cantankerous. Good work ain't cheap. Cheap work ain't good. Pick one. Or pick an old one that was well built when new and has been well maintained, properly operated, and pay a fair price which might be as much as the new price of junk, but choose quality. I think I paid $1900 long shaft & spares 2 or 3 years ago at a marina on the Potomac River and at the time there was some internet scam going on selling outboard engines for super cheap prices.

What a different sound that clackity thing makes compared to my honda bf8. 123cc vs 222. That thing would drive me nuts.
