He was not charged and if he was innocent then he should have gone through the nomination process even if he felt uncomfortable with the report coming out he shouldn't have given in. Most people already know what the allegations were. On the other hand if he was not being truthful and there was something else in that report that he didn't want exposed, then he did the right thing pulling out of the AG position. If he was innocent then he should not have withdrawn. The one person Trump should not have done is put Tulsi in his cabinet, "especially" in the position he gave her. He's been rushing through filling these positions so fast he has, imo, not done such a great job.

Ty, back in the mid 1990's Rep. Bob Livingston was voted in as Speaker of the House resigned when the Dems. brought up old allegations about an affair he had years earlier. This was in the height of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. The issue was he and his wife had already gone through counseling as did his children over the incident. He did not want to drag his family back through this again and said it would make it hard for him to do his job having to constantly answer questions regarding a personal issue he and his family had put behind them almost a decade before. Had the media run the truth about the incident it would have been over 5 minutes later, but they didn't. Unfortunately, Republicans have a respect for their constituents and mostly try to do their bidding, however, dems never miss an opportunity to inflict political and emotional pain on a Republican they do not like. No matter how old the charges or how unfounded the charges are proved to be, the dems will relentlessly pound the pavement to every media outlet willing to listen until the media stops covering the story. Gaetz is a very smart fellow and understands how this issue could be used to cause new Republican voters to question Trump. Thus, he bows out and lives to work in the Trump Administration in a different capacity or as the replacement to Marco Rubio in the Senate.

DOJ investigated for 3 years and dropped it. However, he had a meeting yesterday with the senators and they advised him of what the outcome would be, it was probably best that he pulled out for political reasons to keep some integrity he has left, to stay in politics but not as AG. More likely, he will be able to service through another district. In all fairness, integrity speaks volumes, so instead of the dirt being said for all of us to hear it's best to keep it under wraps so he can work and serve politically. Case was to be revealed yesterday, but he resigned to run as President Trumps AG.

Ty, you are right, something about this stinks. I'm at a disadvantage here, because I know very little about the man, except the fact, he has been a loyal Trump supporter. Perhaps Trump himself doesn't know everything about the man. My hope is that the man is guiltless, and all allegations against his are baseless. You and I can only guess. For whatever reason, the man declined the offer, that's what we do know. The best thing we can do at this point, is accept the facts as we know them, and let Trump continue to make his choices. It may be as simple as this. Perhaps he feels that the investigation itself, would tie up enough of his time, that he thinks it would hamper him from being effective in the position he was picked to hold. That's exactly what the Communist based, Marxist loving, America hating Democrats tried to do to Trump himself in his first term. Unfortunately past history has shown, the Republican party has seldom ever stuck together, even when the American people give them the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. The only time you'll see the Republican party stick together through thick and thin, is when it comes to begging for money for elections. Even the ones that bailed on Trump, used Trump's name when it came down to that.
