In other words - it is not going to happen. And even if this impossible scenario did occur (Dem & Rep agreeing to violate the 2nd amendment) it's the Supreme Court that is responsible for holding politicians accountable if they try to violate citizen's rights most importantly the Bill of Rights and would declare this unconstitutional. If they want to remove the 2nd amendment, they would have to get States to agree. Only way and that is not going to happen. Let's put it this way - he knows this will never happen so why give an answer that is hard line one way or the other.
