Nice new wagon. I always thought you couldn't pull a tridem in most states.

yeah, the lesson i learned is you cannot let the new trailer sit for a long time without air, especially in southern kentucky when it's 150F in the shade ;)
@HHTV60

Axle 1 to Axle 3 on the trailer is 12 feet or 3,65 M. The reason for this is that in Eastern Ontario where I live we're allowed 26,000 KG on such a tridem LEGALLY. If the axles were spaced 10'1" (1 to 3), then I'd lose 2,000 KG. In western Canada most tridems are 10'1" because you get 24,000 KG legally, matter if you have 10'1" or 12' tridem. In USA, the legal weight is still 80,000 lb for a truck/3 axle trailer but with a 12' tridem you can load 45,000 lbs (!) on the reaf of the trailer.
@HHTV60
@HHTV60 11 жыл бұрын
a tridem like that gives you 26,000 KG in Ontario LEGAL - no permits, plus in US I can load 45,000 lb on the rear (same 80,000 LB legal limit for US as with a tandem unless I get a overweight permit).

Those brand new bags shouldn't be cracked like that... sloppy work and they don't give a shit

i'm not a fan of load levelers (can make the load unstable and unsafe because it sits high above the deck), but the portable ramps are definitely something to look into. i know there's a model where you can use them both as load levelers and ramps. I think ramps are more useful.

the 3 axle trailer is good if you haul loads inside Canada or if you haul heavy all the time. most flatbed/stepdeck trailers in Western Canada are tri-axles. Now I can run with the big boys ;)

stepdecks look a bit cooler than flats but other than that there's not much advantage.. well except you can put a 10' tall load on the stepdeck and only 8'6" tall load on a flat.

no, cannot go to California because it's a 53' and the rear axle is more than 40' away from the kingpin. i don't like going there anyway especially since my 2004 truck wouldn't even meet their crazy requirements.

i think i'll just buy another pair of amber flashing lights (bought the last set at a TA truck stop somewhere in US). they were about 70 bucks per light. the only other thing i'll need is the switch to activate/deactivate the strobe lights.

the first few months are the worst in terms of wear but you learn to live with it. the most important thing is not to allow inexperienced forklift and crane operators drag stuff on the aluminum floor or drop heavy objects from a height. I got deep scratches on my 53' flat with one 'professional' dragged a 20,000 metal piece across the floor while trying to lift it with a truck crane. Another time I got a hole on the 48' step (the crane dropped a steel sheet on a 4'x4'...)

traditional non-steer lift axles are not recognized in canada. you can have them UP but you cannot have them on the ground. For the 3 axles to be recognized as such (tridem - 26,000 KG in the East, 24,000 KG in the West CND) they should all be fixed, no lift. You can have self-steer lift axle and that one is legal. I think in the future at least in ON they are trying to get away from fixed tridems and get people to have a fixed TANDEM + self-steer lift in the front.

I delivered some flat steel plates to that place a few months ago. Some of that load could now be part of your trailer. That's pretty cool.

Also, those Landstar guys I saw with Ontario plates had the trailer ramps / load levelers for their tridem steps. Might be something to looks into since those guys decided they needed them. They weren't using them at the time though. I look forward to some interesting loads on your new trailer. - T.K.

Sergei, What is the axle spaccing on the trailer? Here in Australia we mainly have either 10'1" 9'1" or 8'1" most go for the close spacing to get better wear out of the tires. 10'1" tends to scrub tires. The weight on the Tri-axles are 20,000kg irrespective of the axle spacingAlso the 5th wheel pin is normally set to 1.4 meters from the front of the trailer. Here the weight on the tri-axle is 20,000kg, 16,500kg on the drive & 6.500kg on the steer.

Looks good Sergie. What are you gonna do for flashing yellow lights on the rear ? Are you gonna swap out what you had installed on your flatbed ? I love polished aluminum rims, won't buy a truck without them. They're a requirement as far as I'm concerned, makes a truck look good. I saw a couple Landstar trucks with Ontario plates and tridem steps headed up 390 north in New York a couples weeks ago. They were loaded so it looks like there's some loads available heading home for you.- T.K.

I see tridems all the time with the rear a el lifted in canada? We had dump valves and chains on our flat and lifted the rear axel whenever we were empty or light, saves a lot of fuel. My friend James still does flat deck and has a 3 axel flat ill ask him what the deal is and let you know. Congrats!!!! Looks like an awesome trailer, hopefully you find lots of high paying loads!!!!!!

actually it turns pretty good (better than my 53' flat). the difference is the wheelbase: this 3- axle step has 40 feet from the kingpin to Axle 2; the flatbed has 41 feet from the kingpin to the middle between the 2 axles. I also noticed the step backs up easier than the flat, probably for the same reason (shorter wheelbase).

Sorry, if no military secret, are you a Company Driver or O/O? Also something I don't get it, you said you live in Ontario but your truck and company is based in Jacksonville, FL but you have no CVOR number on the driver's door, very weird IMO. Drive safely.

sergie proud daddy of a new tralier. yeah if you picked that tralier up by the chassis those axle's just hang off the air bags. so when they fall in a hole thats what happens. you can prevent this by having chain ( with a bit of slack of course) welded to the axle & then to the chassis,or cable to suspend the axle in mid air when there is nothing underneith it.
@HHTV60
@HHTV60 11 жыл бұрын
because i was told the air bag was defective and I needed a new one (idiots!). Now I know all you need is more air and then the bag pops right back. I forgot to ask them to show me where that valve is. I know the guy used a wrench the last time and he was doing this between Axle 1 and Axle 2 on the trailer, somewhere under the floor.

I would of drove right back to the manufacturer and instructed them to change all my bags and to install Brand New ones.. And I would of told them, ("You dont place air bags on my truck, then deflate them and leave it parked for weeks deflated and expect me to accept those bags like that") They would of had no choice but to place brand new airbags on my truck. I am not going to spend 50-k for a bed to accept this kind of things. Hey but thats me ("my opinion") ---- But even then, If I would of seen then in the manufacturer's lot, I would of made them change ALL the bags immediately, or I would of not signed any papers. If I purchase a brand new trailer, I want No flaws at all. specially on the first day.
