I loved them in Woe, Is Me. I even enjoy Tyler & Mike's work in the A Path Less Traveled EP. And when Issues first came out following the WIM break-up and released their Black Diamonds EP, I was in love. Something about that specific sound at that specific time in my life and time in the evolution of the scene, it was like magic. They knocked it out of the park with their self titled record too. That whole album is full of gold top to bottom. But Headspace was weaker. A lot of cool sounds between the vocal stylings and the evolution of the instrumentals, but personally speaking half of that record was super weak to me. Don't get me wrong, I still love a hand full of songs from Headspace as much as their previous work, but half of the record felt like it was turning into something I had little interest in. And their last album was even weaker. The shift was even more dramatic and I can enjoy maybe two songs off of it as a result. Issues was going down the toilet without Michael and now without Tyler the first instinct might be to say they're definitely finished. I know Tyler's vocals are a main draw to their music no matter how good the instrumentals can be. But thinking it all over and running through their evolution, the band might actually do better without him. Maybe they'll bring Michael back. Maybe they won't. But regardless I can't help but to feel the direction the band had been heading was influenced by Tyler. So maybe with him out of the picture the boys can revert back to an older version of themselves and, especially if they pick up a quality replacement, we can see a version of Issues that sounds more like their self-titled / Headspace sound than their Beautiful Oblivion sound.
