Haven’t lost a fly since I taught my son how to swim. I feel a little guilty in the winter months though.

I attached my tip at with a triple surgeons knot. I attached my fly with an improved clinch knot. Improved clinch will usually break off before the triple surgeons knot.

When you roll cast and get yourself unstuck… Almost as cool as catching a fish.

I learned this trick recently and I’m pissed no one showed me it earlier 😂

A great reason to always use barbless hooks whenever possible? Thanks, Ben

Except that doesn’t guarantee anything as far as this subject goes
@zeph64392 күн бұрын
@@MarkWinkelman-l7f I guarantee that no birds will get snagged by hooks left in trees, and furthermore, that no fish, turtles or any other aquatic creature will be trapped down there by a barbed hook left by idiots who just don't give a fk about nature.

I found feeding line out till you can put the rod behind you and grabbing the line works better then holding the rod to get unstuck/breaking off. Grab line, then face away from the flies while pulling, at most you might catch a rocket to the back of the legs. And here lately ive mostly been stuck on a pile of leaves and once you put more force into the line it just rips the leaves out and you get your whole rig back.

I consider myself a bit of an expert at breaking off flys that have been snagged in trees. I have enough ISO, Drake, Hex and whatever else along the AuSable (the real one) and Manistee to fill all my fly boxes.

I broke my welded loop 10 minutes into a multiday solo trip in the middle of nowhere. I didn't (and still don't) know how to tie a blood or perfection knot lmao.

Well, neither of those knots will help attaching leader to fly line…so, learn a nail knot.

Yeah, I keep several coffee stirring straws in a few of my bags. Also a few sewing machine needles for needle and nail knots..

Sometimes I like to break off my flies in other people’s rigs that are fishing too close to me over and over again because i tie.(not worried about getting shot 😎🇨🇦)
