Everyone also forgets we have Giolito in our rotation whenever they list the redsox rotation. So it's Crochet, Giolito, houck, bello,crawford. If we get Burnes that would be unbelievable but we really need to get Roki.

The White Sox got so much more for Crochet than they did for Cease. Which is pretty crazy to me.
@PhilliesNostalgia2 сағат бұрын
Red Sox may be a bit more desperate than San Diego, they’re also banking on potential, rather than buying a known commodity, and Crochet probably had more years of control than Cease did
@beanie3427Сағат бұрын
I think it’s a function of age, perceived upside, the pitching market, and potentially Crochet may be more open to an extension than Cease (which shouldn’t impact trade value, but often does). But I do get it from that perspective, because while I view Cease as a rock solid all star caliber pitcher in the middle of his prime… I view Crochet as a dude who, on a good team, could become one of the 2-3 best pitchers in baseball, and he is just at the infancy of his prime.
@brandondillman5841Сағат бұрын
@@beanie3427 Crochet is a beast, but he's a bit unorthodox in that he's just a 2 pitch pitcher. You rarely see that from starters nowadays. Seems like everybody has at least 5 pitches. Based on what I have heard in Red Sox media, Devers will not be moving from third any time soon. The clubhouse/staff does not see his defense as poorly as it may grade out to those who don’t watch the games. Most of his defensive errors last year were when he was playing in a shift closer to the shortstop position and he has improved as a defender year over year. The sox are committed to still developing him as a third baseman.

I don’t get the narrative that moving some young slugger to DH is some crazy sacrilegious move when that player is worth negative value on defense. Like obviously ideally you want the player you’re paying tons of money to be able to add value defensively as well but they aren’t just gonna magically figure it out and start. Wouldn’t this add more value to the team by removing a negative? Focusing on solely offense might be a positive as well

Not sure what people are expecting the O's to do. They're in the same market size as teams like the Guardians, Brewers, Reds and Pirates. How TF are they supposed to compete with the big market teams for players? This isn't the NFL or NBA where every team has the same opportunity to sign players.
@WalkoffGrandslam2 сағат бұрын
They do though. It's just wether the owner is willing to pay or not. But in reality. Every single owner or ownership group can easily afford big contracts. They just care about maximizing profits than maximizing product. Every team can do what Steve Cohen is doing with th Mets they just choose not to.

@@WalkoffGrandslam any team could, that's true. But if a small market team like Baltimore or Cleveland hands out a massive contract like what it will take to get Burnes, and it doesn't work out, it sets the team back a decade.
