Most of the things they are doing aren't specifically against the law. At least not yet. But they have decided to abandon decorum and abuse loopholes to try to "cheat". The Ohio Supreme Court ordered the Rep led Ohio Gov't to redistrict and has had to knock back the gerrymandered redraws there twice, but lawmakers there have suffered no repercussions. I still can't work out how politicians have any oversight of the election process. Australia (not the only country) has a federal, apolitical commission which oversees _everything,_ from registration, to boundaries, to counting - not a politician in sight. It's a bit tricky, I would think, because these are -- at a very basic, technical level -- two co-equal branches of government. We passed a law in Mich where a panel of one Dem, one Repub and one non-partisan would draw the districts. Fairness meant Dems got the Governor, the AG and the SOS. We also took both houses for Dems for the first time in decades. Fairness is what Republicans fear most.

Finally. FINALLY this state's long-standing gerrymander will be corrected. I'll still be in a deep-red Congressional district, but at least African-American folks in the southern part of the state will have a chance at getting more proper representation, after having just the one majority-black district in west-central Alabama for years.

A RECENT and MODERN one too, arrive it was rewritten in 1996/7 to specifically NEVER allow such a takeover of justice again! And Germany has SO MANY holocaust museums, determined to educate people about their past history instead of burying it! Countries really can LEARN from their mistakes, and the US COULD HAVE LEARNED FROM OTHER COUNTRIES' HISTORY AND POLITICAL SYSTEMS. But the USA does not learn world history only whitewashed US propaganda. This dumbing down as has been pointed out as a problem for decades has made people vulnerable to the evangelical world domination indoctrination mission which has been taught for decades at least, which had now taken over and all but controls the GOP. Ohio's GOP-led legislature tried something like this, and we're still fighting that battle. It didn't go all the way to the US Supreme Court, but the Ohio Supreme Court ruled against the maps drawn up by the legislature several times. That legislature flouted their rulings, using delay tactics, and successfully ran out the clock before the last general election. Now the citizens are taking up the battle with a citizen-led initiative, and the saga continues... I'm praying Alabama gets corrected maps in time for the 2024 election.
