A rhinoceros wakes to find itself in a room with no doors or windows. All four walls of the room are made of hollow cinder block, but three of the four walls are reinforced with rebar and cement filling rendering them unbreakable. Utterly confused, the rhinoceros studies the room for a moment and then tries ramming into the first wall to get itself free, but is stunned to find that it won't budge because it is reinforced and completely solid. The rhinoceros shakes it off and tries ramming the second wall to knock it down, but only managed to break off a few small crumbs because it, too, is reinforced. In a total daze, the rhinoceros tries ramming the third wall, but then falls over unconscious from trying to ram yet another reinforced wall. After a few minutes, the rhinoceros regains consciousness and slowly pulls to its feet. Both exhausted and completely unable to withstand ramming another reinforced wall, the poor rhinoceros sinks its head in failure and has all but given up hope. ...but then, with a sudden stroke of genius, the rhinoceros stands on it's hind legs, clears its throat, and asks you, the reader, "Should I try breaking the fourth wall?"

FUN FACTS about what makes "purple" vs blue in that level: the two colors in On/Off blocks are 237 and 239 (hue), the spaceship animated into the background of the anti-softlock is 238, the bright background pieces are 240, P-Switches are 241, all considered "blue." The "Boo" button is 248, considered purple. That is a VERY slim distinction, but we now know that the border between blue and purple is between 241 and 248.

That was a weird distinction I think for the level creator, using the "Boo" as purple. I would probably say 248 is still on the line of purple vs blue. In this kind of level, I would avoid using anything near that vague range.

The problem is that declaring it purple makes it less clear what else in the level is considered purple vs. blue. @@cQunc The unclearness prior to that is actually what makes it work. If it had been a known all the time, you could at any time just have paused to reset without bothering about the rule, since you'd see purple every time you pause anyway, and thus had to reset, which would've gotten rid of the need for any and all anti-softlocks. But it happened at the end of the level, so there wasn't anything left at that point. As such it doesn't really matter.

the geek version of the dont hold left level played a bit differently. Failing the jump to cp2 dropped you down a poop chute that ended right where the door at the start leads. fast forward to the end of the level, which instead said something along the lines of "only nerds follow rules. start over and grab flag", at which point the speedrun teleport to the other side of the flag triggers, furthering the nerd insult. Geek's response to being told to break the rules was "nah, i'll just turn the remote upside down and press left that way. i still followed the rules, f*** off!" So we come to the not geek version, where "only nerds follow the rules" became "flip remote 180 degrees", turning geek's spite into the correct answer. XD

@@nintySW You completely missed my point. “Unplayable levels in endless run.” To get in endless run, they have to be beaten by the creator. But creators can literally make it damn near impossible to find the solution which is why it’s basically unplayable for the end user unless they want to spend hours finding the solution. (e.g. looking for a hidden block) or are aware of the program that reveals the entire level layout which most people playing don’t know exists.

@@Zeforas the brief answer, as a mathematician qualified to speak on the topic of machine learning, is that barring a fundamental conceptual breakthru, no, it isn't. in terms of identifier accuracy, we've already peaked at what current techniques are capable of. in fact, we peaked about a decade ago. what we're currently doing, in terms of what's getting results, is just tossing more memory, computation, and data into the training set. I said a long time ago, and I still stand by it, that Eliza passes almost all of the tests we currently consider critical for LLM's. And it's not like they're above her in synthesis! what we're currently experiencing, which has happened before I'll add, is a lot of boosterism and investment in AI and datasets which requires selling a product to pay off; so there's tons and tons and tons of marketing in different ways, and a lot of money being put towards convincing people that hey, current AIs are good enough, and where they aren't, they'll improve tomorrow! because AIs learn over time! spoiler, they do not in fact learn over time. They "learn" over data, which is often accumulated over time, but we've shoved literal petabytes of information into them already . . . they're already in the maturity of their possible learning cycles given all the data that exists on earth. what can happen is that the programmers can build better or more efficient models under the surface, or more focussed models. or, they can do as they're currently doing in many areas, and operate a puppet show based on specific data poisoning, (feeding specific answers/responses to specific questions/stimuli). As chatgpt 4 has shown us already, without data poisoning, chatgpt cannot pass a single codeforce question. Not a one! since its prior results were passing *every* codeforce question, that gives us a very clear idea of how much of a role data poisoning played in that prior result, and therefore how much specific puppetry was going on behind the scenes.

There's a lot more that AI can do aside from art and creative writing. AI can write code, or even control other AI. With the right tools, AI can navigate the web, enter in information, order and deliver groceries, send posts on social media, create its own videos and upload them to KZbin, etc. The possibilities are almost endless, but it can also be quite horrifying indeed '' '

He carefully jumps over a series of glitched blocks, dodges a barrage of fireballs, and lands on a moving platform that takes him straight to the goal. But just as he's about to reach the goal, the entire level glitches out. Suddenly, he's back at the start of the level. It's a classic troll move, but CarlSagan42 is ready for it. He knows that he needs to expect the unexpected. With lightning-fast reflexes, CarlSagan42 dodges an off-screen thwomp and jumps over a series of invisible blocks. He lands on a hidden platform that takes him straight to the real goal, and he jumps through it triumphantly. The chat explodes with messages of congratulations and amazement, and CarlSagan42 can't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. He may have been trolled, but he came out on top in the end.

I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but the glitch era is my least favorite era of trolls because I don’t like the idea of ANYTHING being able to happen. What I love most about trolls is that there are rules. Blocks behave in the same way in every level, but how you use those blocks is creative and unique. When a block can do whatever you want, it complete tears down any expectations the player may have. And without expectations, there’s no satisfaction for the trolls. You don’t expect a block to behave the way it should, so when it doesn’t behave the way it should, you aren’t surprised. That’s why I’ve never been a big fan of troll rom hacks. People make too many changes to the rules of how the game is played to the point where you see a block and you have no idea what it’s supposed to do. “Oh, it’s a coin block. It’s probably not going to have a coin or item in it.” *hits coin block and it resets your checkpoint.* “wow. Who woulda guessed.”

My favorite part of this is that it sets you up for each troll -- like, it shows you the half-height fake block, then it hits you with it again in a new way for the next troll. It'll like the 1-1 of troll levels.
